Google desktop

Looking for advice please. I tried using Google Desktop last night, and was told it could search for a file on my computer. I asked it to search for Jpg files, and to my surprise, I got a snapshot of every webpage that I have used !!! I use CCleaner and thought this removed these files. If I search windows explorer for Jpg file, these don’t show. So my question is, Where is this list of Jpg’s held, and how do I get rid of them. Hope this makes sense !! I am using Vista home edition.

    I assume your running IE?

If so Internet options>General tab> Then under browsing history click delete.
Or you can go into settings beside it and reduce the amount of space you want to allow IE to store temp internet files.

You'll be given options there and it's fairly self explanitory.

the names of lots of websites will be in the registry too

if you are paranoid IE is probably not the best browser to use, portable firefox means (almost?) all the settings are in one folder instead of sprinkled across the system

the IE temporary internet files folder is a hidden one so windows doesn't search by default

Its worth noting that even the standard version of Firefox puts all the files into a profile folder which you can easily delete, there are also various add-ons (extentions) whcih you can use in Fierfox to delete content as you go.

Only if your paranoid of course ;)

You could just stop looking at porn... ;)

Actually, is Google Desktop worth it? I installed it one day, it started to do that search index thing it has to do the first time it runs, took too long so i un-installed it again (i'm impatient, what can i say?)

If your computer is relatively powerful, I think Google desktop can be worth it, though i haven't been using it since I upgraded to Vista and their live search basically eradicated the need to run Desktop (though the upcoming service pack is going to try and integrate the two if that's what users want).

Anyway, in the short term, your best bet may well be to search fro *.jpg files and Windows should show them all. you can then delete whatever you don't like from within there.

And also switch to Firefox, by simply going Tools > Clear Private Data, you can choose to delete cookies, saved form entries, history etc! Very handy indeed.
