Is that from the same writer?!? Because unlike the other one, this list makes absolutely no sense.

    1) Denis Irwin isn't even on the list!?!? Surely he must be in the top 5 or 10 at most

    2) Paul McGrath a better signing than Peter Schmeichel? I don't think so.

    3) Yes OK Berbatov had a great season. But was that transfer better than Denis Law, Neville Southall or Alan Shearer?

hard to dispute Cantona being number 1

    Steve Bull - 306 goals for 65,000 pounds = £213.11p per goal.

    Mike.

No Fabregas? 50k and worth £50million now.

I think Schmeichel should be up a lot higher.

Essien no doubt is a great player but he was expensive. Is the list based on ability taking the transfer fee into equation? If so, then Essien should not be in there...

Hyypia for me was probably Houillers best signing for the money

Definitely Fabregas should be there, unless he doesnt count cos it wasn't really an ordinary transfer?, i.e Barca didn't have much of a say

Van Persie was only 2.75 million, Toure for 150,000, not too shabby? Maybe he didn't want to many Wenger ones:D

Berbatov made the list but 2.5 million Benni McCarthy, who scored more league goals than him, didn't?

I'd have Keane as number one. He has to be the best signing ever. Why he's so far down the list is beyond me.

I just spotted something that makes this list a bit of a joke, especially when added to some of the points already mentioned.

    Patrick Vieira isn't on it.

Keane (19) and Vieira should both be right up the very top of it

I rate Essien very highly but to have him just 7 places away from Keane is a bit of a joke..he had a poor first season and cost 24million...and again..Vieira?!?

What about Marc Overmars or Petit for that matter? Both bought relatively cheaply, were highly successful and sold on at a tidy profit.

What about the fact that almost all of entries at the top of the list are post 1990? In fact the first century of football produces less than half the list.

Poorly thought out, conceived in a deadline panic, list.
