    Hi,

I was looking for some GPS software with Irish maps with it
that would run on a java enabled phone (SE w610i in my case).

I found a couple of decently working ones but they all required
online internet connection to fetch the data and maps.

What i'm looking for is software (like route66 for symbian)
that would keep the maps on the memory card and wouldnt
    need internet connection at all.

I found vietnamese GPS (http://vllp.sourceforge.net/vgps/html/index.htm) but
there arent any Irish maps available.

    Any suggestions ?

    Hi,

First, I don't speak English very good, so, be friendly ;o) !

I'm looking for that same program too and I have not seen this program, thank you for the link.
I navigate into the site of VGPS and in the download section I see "Software to view/edit garmin maps".
Don't you use this soft to create your irish maps ?
I will try to do the maps for my countries and will write the result on this forum when it will be done.

    Hi there,

No worries I'm not native English speaker neither ;)

The problem with VGPS is that the maps are 'compiled' by the authors.
What you can download is software for viewing and editing the maps,
but if you want to have them available from VGPS then you need to send
them to the email address given.

I did that for the map I had and never got response back.

If you go any further you have to come back here with results! :)

    Cheers
    B

    Hi,

I read a lot of pages on the VGPS's Website and I read too the text where he says that Java can't read a map hoe are not compiled with the program... Question of security he says...

It's annoying because, now, with the memory card who can storage more than 2Go, we 'd can put in our phone the map of an entire land.
Moreover, it's not possible to the programmer of VGPS to receive from everyone a Garmin map file of 40 Mb (by exemple) to compile with his program.

I found another program which could can maybe interest you. It's Trekbuddy . This program is often updated and the last version of the 31 july 2007 seems integrate Navigation.
This program use maps from google maps I think...

If you can tell me what you thinks about this, it will be fun !

    Bye.

    Speaking of other programs...

I have found and used MGMaps and its GREAT!

I got the maps for Google stored offline and used with that proggie.
Dublin map with zoom level 17 is less than 100 mbytes. :)

The only problem is that it does not offer any decent navigation.

But I think its the only proggie out there that can use offline google
    maps you prepare yourself.

    Give it a try !
