DS Homebrew, Favourites/recommendations?

So my mate is in Hong Kong and said the R4 is everywhere over there so is picking one up for me. I have done some research in to what is available and I'm not too interested in playing "backups" of my games (seriously why bother pretending this is what you are doing?) but am really interested in the home brew aspect of the DS.

What I have seen so far that I like is:
DSOrganize, but you can't import iCal/ICS files?
    NDSMail, but no IMAP support?
ScummVM I have it on my MacBook but it'd be nice to have on the move too (no I haven't downloaded the games I had them/bought them)
Moonshell, I can get txt files of books (out of copyright at the Gutenberg Project and all legal) and read them on the move, nice but I think there maybe a better programme for this (DSOrganize?)

So what homebrew are people using on here? Do they use an R4? Is the fact my machine at home is a MacBook (although I have access to windoze) going to be a problem? What are the above applications like? If I get a programme that I can load my google calendar on to to see on the move I'll be happy.

EDIT: Did try a search but it didn't work so sorry if there is a duplicate topic

There is Beup, an MSN clone that is pretty dandy if that is an interest to you.

After that though, I'm unsure. The DS homebrew scene, although has loads of games, does not really have many "must have" titles or programmes.

Oh, there is a programme (whose name escapes me) that lets you control your computer from your DS which in essence means that you can use the DS to browse and stuff. Probably not that great though, seeing as you already have a laptop.....

There is a list of Homebrew games here :

so you can filter through them yourself and pick and choose the ones that appeal to you.

One I love is World of Sand DS.

Basically the flash sand game on your ds. Works really well with a stylus.

Quite a few pc games being ported over. DSdoom. DSQuake. DSDuke. Someone is working on a Command and conquer project. Something I really REALLY hope gets released.

Also use nesDS, SnesDS, Picodrive, Lameboy, speccyDS. *trying to think of more*

I'm most interested in getting NitroTracker; a music creation application for the DS.

    Here's the Official site.

I just remembered another great one called Colors. It's a painting program which has transparencies and Wacom style pressure sensitivity. You can save your pictures too.

    Definitely worth checking out.

Quite a lot of people here have ordered theirs from deal extreme. Including myself. (I've ordered 8 in total, all worked fine)

    http://dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1459

    With 1gb sd card

    http://dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1897

    With 2gb sd card.

Postage is free. (Although they're in China, so it'll take 2-3 weeks to deliver)

    No problem :)

Comics on ds? Not something I ever considered.

Well I'll be damned. Another app I'll have to give a go at some point.
