Murder epidemic

Heard a programme the other day about Malcolm McArthur and the GUBU thing back in the 1980s. Those were the days - a murder would have two-inch headlines in the Evening Press for weeks.

We still don't have anything like the murder rates of our neighbours across Europe, but the current epidemic of gang killings, murder-suicides and wife-murders are not what we want.

Perhaps Dermot Ahern's new confluct resolution centre (http://www.rte.ie/news/2007/0708/ahernd.html?rss) should cut its teeth by mediating in the gangland disputes - if they could solve these before they become a multi-generational vendetta, it would give them a good CV for the international disputes they hope to mediate.

if they did that now, the paper would be full of murder headlines every day!

We'll always have 'gormless idiots' buying mind altering drugs, always have, always will. This is a fundamental truth. Why people cant grasp this simple concept baffles me.

It prohibition of the stuff that these 'gormless idiots' are after that causes crime, nothing else.

There's murder's being reported nearly every 2nd day now, most times it's gangs retaliating over another hit or just the drugs thing. Though the latest seems to be finding bodies inside houses or fish shops.

I not going to even dignify Billy's remark with a response.

i'd be interested to know if the rate of non-gang-related murders has actually gone up. The rachel o'reilly case attracted a lot of attention because it was so unusual (ie Husband kills wife and tries to get away with it).

Murder-suicides seem to have increased anyway.

Have there not been a few murders of foreigners lately too, obviously those committed out of xenophobic/racist reasons and those committed by foreigners would never have happened before the celtic tiger simply because no-one was bothered coming here.
