Leading on from the what driver thread plenty of us hiijacked the other day ;)
I went to celbridge driving range yesterday evening with the intention of trying out a new driver from mcguirks there, before I bought. Unfortunately mcguirks at the range is now closed :( so I just practiced my short game for a while.

Today I went to mcguirks in blanchardstown sc, was looking at the drivers they have, callaway ft5 & fti, ping G5, tm R7 superquad, nike sumo...etc.
Seeing as I was unsure of what to get I asked the manager for opinions & asked about celbridge.

He told me they are opening a test/fitting centre with fitting for ping/callaway/taylormade. He was showing me the test area and the fitting equipment, plenty of different shafts & heads. They analyse your swing speed and spin you put on the ball to help pick your club.

It should have been open 2 weeks ago, but has to open within 2 weeks or the sh*t will hit the fan :)

Anyway I'll defo be waiting till it opens before buying now.
Thought I'd pass on the info.
Apologies for the war & peace sized post :)

PS I DONT work for mcguirks.

sorry dude, but is this opening in blanch or celbridge?

You said you asked the manager in blanch about celbridge but
then he showed you around the test area?

I'll certainly be interested in what the custom fitting entails...

great that they will have a launch monitor etc but I doubt that a full custom fitting service will be provided in terms of lie angles for irons...shaft pulls etc etc...

we're so far behind the service in the US its not funny...but certainly a step in the right direction...

did you pull the trigger on the x-tours cop??

Sorry just re read my post, see where it could be confusing.
Its opening in the back of the Blanch shop.
Celbridge shop is closed. Re-opening as a private shop (not mcguirks)

I asked the manager in blanch why they closed the mcguirks at the celbridge range.

@zoolander, he did say they'd be doing fitting for irons too, didn't say what it entailed though.

I'll defo be doing it....especially if I'm intending on spending between €200-400 on a club. He told me to ring late next week and hopefully they'll be able to give a definite date for opening.
I'll let you all know what exactly they do.

hmmm, not that impressed if it is going to be a hitting into net/impact wall type of thing. Prob be similar to what american golf and premier golf have. Would be better off at a range with the same setup so you can actually see ball flight too. The one in Naas with the tour van type setup or apparentlty they have a good setup in Leapordstown since the revamp..

Guy in McGurks in Blanch told me they would have fitting area "soon" but if you are near Naas there is a company called "Fore Golf" Derek Murray, who does the exact same thing with your existing clubs. I had mine lengthened and the loft changed and it helped big time. they are on the web.

happy i had been looking into fore golf before...what exactly did they do..I'm looking at getting some new irons and getting them custom made in terms of length, lie etc..do they do that service or do they just change your current setup..

btw how much did that service cost you

fore golf are the people I meant in naas above. Some of the guys have worked on tour and they offer any and all services, including fitting for all new clubs including putters and adjusting and changing current setups.
I think it is 100, but you get that off whatever you buy.

do they stock a full range of oem's

they will adjust your own clubs or custom standard new ones. there is also a crowd on Newtown Park ave in blackrock who do the same thing. Profit. I do nto know what derek charges now but when i did it he charged me about 100 € i think. Maybe their website or just phone him.?? well worth it.
i play with some good guys 3 h/c 6 etc and they all get them custom fitted.

foregolf stock all the major oems iirc, it's been a couple of years since I was in profit, they do adjustments, reshafting and fitting for your own clubs, but if you want new ones they only sell component clubs like kzg, although kzg are nice clubs.

nice guy though and very helpful, he adjusted a set of irons I got to make sure the lofts and lies were good.
