How To Upgrade To Sky+

I am currently a Sky customer but with the regular box. We are thinking of upgrading to Sky+ but I am finding it really hard to get information on the deals/packages etc. The website is rubbish and offers no help. then again I am not very techno minded so I may be missing the point.

Ideally I would love to have viewing in another room aswell as the living room.
So can I upgrade to Sky+, keep my existing box (I am a customer for over 12mths) and use it in another room?
If so I presume that we can only view the same channels and not have different viewing simultaneously.
Can I use my old box to recieve the FTA channels and view different channels as on the Sky+ box.
What is the cheapest way to upgrade and is the package price I am on at the moment the same as for Sky+
Is there anyway to get the Sky+ box free? €149 is very expensive for me.

Apologies for the very basic questions but any information would be a great help.

              Ok

Ordinary sky use a single cable coming down from the dish , this will be from a single LNB on the dish.

For Sky + , you need two cables coming down from the dish , you watch on one while recording on another , or record from both and watch a previously recorded show .

If you order multiroom , this is an extra 15 euro a month and the installer will put in a third line so you can use your standard sky box in another room , this will give you the same packages available on the sky+ box and you can watch whatever you like on each box.
A quad LNB needs to be installed for this.

Alternatively , you can bung the installer a few quid to throw in an extra line , and just watch the FTA shows on the standard box. You can watch different channels on each box that way too , obviously any premium packages will not be available on the standard box.
You can put the extra line in yourself if you get some CT100 cable , some F connectors , and are handy with a ladder.

As far as I know the sky + subscription is now gone , but the box is not free , Ive seen them in some places for 99 euro but these are probably the 40 GB boxes , they come in 40GB , 80 GB , and 150 GB sizes , or at least they are the only sizes ive seen.

Sky HD is 300GB but thats top of the range and is currently 449 euro. ( 299 euro to perferred customers)

              Hope this helps some.

For Sky+ a quad-output LNB is always installed, so it's not difficult to connect one or two additional cables to it. You can then connect one or two more Digiboxes and watch whatever programmes they provide (independent of the Sky+ box).

Info on changing the LNB here: http://www.satcure.com/tech/page10.htm

(CT100 cable is no longer manufactured. It was superseded at least three years ago by H109F and that has now been superseded by WC100 cable).
