Cars over 20 years old - Wanted or Advice On!

Probably the wrong area but I'm also looking for Advice! :)

I'm a Student whom has developed a love of classic cars, really caught the bug! :o

I'm currently looking for my first classics, looking for cars which are over 20years old (over 30 is prefered) either to fully restore or to maintain meticulously.

A car to restore would allow me to learn about the mechanics and techniques employed, and would suit me down to the ground. I've previously partly-restored an old camry, I know of the time and money involved, and now looking to learn further, especially about engines and drive systems!

A good example of a classic would also be great as I can smarten her up and either use her as a runner or to preserve as a cherished possesion.

Idealy I'd like to have both a project car, nice runner, and show piece.

PM me or reply please, either about your car or someone elses you know of, I will PM my email to whomever is interested.

Please give your opinions anyway as I'm always looking for friendly advice! Like what cars are suitable or easyish to work on, what models do you reccommend?

    Thanks
    Clif

A VW Golf mk1 or mk2, there are loads of mk2's around, you'll get them very cheap or for nothing if you look hard enough. Simple to work on, new parts are cheap and available spurious, there are loads of modifications available for them , they're great to drive and look great. But that's just my opinion, I'm a bit biased, I've got 6 GTI's.:)

E30 is another option, albeit a lot more common/sought after than the Golf these days, which I can assume is down to the RWD...

A good 318is is a fun chariot, (I've given up on selling my saloon, I'm going to keep it now, and am not altogether unhappy about it).

If you want to go over the 30 year mark, I suggest a Reliant Scimitar, no rust worries (once you ensure the chassis etc., is a-ok), 6 bores, and will turn heads wherever you go.

There are many options, of course, but these would be mine.

RWD Ford Escort, BMW 2002, or Triumph Dolomite (Sprint).

    Simple mechanicals.
