Stupidly for the last year or so ive had my money just sitting in a current a/c. I know i gain nothing from that, so looking for advice on the best savings a/c or maybe something to invest in that could give a decent return. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have around 15k to save/invest.

IFSRA have something on their website that compares the best offers.

I believe Rabodirect and Northern Rock are amongst that group.

I save with Rabo and I find them very good and easy to deal with. I've moved money in and out of the account several times with no problems and no penalties and I believe that their interest rates are some of the best in Ireland. Also their automatic phone system messages are very funny :-)

The New Ireland Evergreen fund has returned an average of 18% per annum sincc 1976, it has never had a negative return. It's an open ended investment with a minimum recommended term of 5 years. You can invest any amount from 5k upwrds. The most recent term ending in 2006 returned 48% - 'nuff said.

(and 9/11 & Iraq happened in the middle of that)

You should take a look at your figures again.

The returns for the Evergreen fund are quoted on this pdf. I'd estimate return has been about 10% per annum, most of that coming in the 70s. It has had a number of years where it had a negative return (-7% in 2002). It also appears to be weighted over 30% in property, which many people would say has had a run that is unlikely to be repeated.

Note that the figures on the pdf do not include fees which I find a bit disingenuous.
