My first wax

Ok, so I booked an appointment with Urban Wax for my first wax. I'm getting it done 2 days before I fly out on my holidays so I hope thats time enough for my skin to settle down. I'm getting 3/4 legs and a basic bikini. I've heard nothing but great things about Urban Wax but everyone thinks I'd be just as well off going down the road to the local salon instead of paying more and going all the way into town. But it's my first wax so I want to be in good hands? Anyone have an experiences with them?

Also, I am absolutely SH1TTING myself. I know it's stupid but I'm really nervous cos I don't have a very high pain threshold and I don't wanna cry in front of everyone after having one strip taken off! Anyway, anything to make the pain easier?

I'm following the tips on their website (I'm letting the hair on my legs grow out for a couple of weeks and I'm gonna use tea tree oil afterwords etc.) but does anyone have any other tips? For bikini treatments they suggest cutting the hair to 3/4 length. I would do this if I was getting much done down there, do you think I should do it for just the basic bikini?

Thanks to anyone who bothers to answer all these question!

    Linda

Rub ice around the area before you get it done to numb it.

If you're worries about pain, take some painkillers before you go in. Also, urban wax do a "no scream cream" that is supposed to reduce the pain.
Ur right to spend the money as urban wax and brazilia specialise in waxing, all their therapists are specifically trained in waxing whereas the beauty salon "down the road" usually aren't as highly qualified in this area. You will be in good hands!!
You should be letting the hair grow for at LEAST 6 weeks beforehand, although it depends on how fast your hair growth is.
It's not as painful as you think, just don't get it done if you're hungover or due your period and you're more sensitive then. The therapists are v. professional and will do their best to make you feel as comfortable as possible.
    Happy waxing!

    Hiya,

Ive been going to them for about 3 years, much prefer it than a local beauty place.

Best advice is to have 2 nurofen ( or something similar) about 15 mins before you go - makes your pain threshold a bit better, and youll be grand.

Best of luck, no need to worry, youll be going the whole time once you do it once!

    Oh My God

This thread inspired me to look into getting a bikini wax as Ive never had it done before. I went to Urban website but the descriptions are a bit scary.

    Is it mad sore?

    Would you guys recommend it?

I think I'll stick with the easier/cheaper option of painkillers. Though, ice might be a good idea, I don't think I'll be able to carry it into town in my handbag!

I think 6 weeks growth is a good idea but Urban Wax website recommends at least 2-3 so I think I'll be ok. By the time I get it done the hair will have been growing for over 3 weeks.

I forgot to mention that I have very sensitive skin though...that might be confirmed with the patch test I'm having the day before...I also have eczema (not usually on my legs though) so I'm a bit worried...

    hey all,

I know exactly how you feel, took me 2 months to get the nerve to go in...
I made a fuss over nothing thank god!!:D

Got the my first brazillian in Urban Wax. It may be more expensive then other places nearby , but I honestly think it's worth it.The girls in there really know their stuff and they do a great job
I was so worried that it would take ages but they're very quick.

I don't know about you guys but I really prefer the hot wax as apposed to the strips...... takes far less time....

I dunno whether to go for hot wax or warm? I've heard hot wax is less painful but will it burn you when they're appling? If it's quick and painless that'll do me but I dunno..

I got my patch test done and when I went back to them for the real thing they said I couldn't get it done! I noticed a red bump coming up on where it was waxed but i thought this was normal. They said it would be red and sore/itchy but they thought that, seeing as I'm going away, it would be safer not to do it. Grrr! All those weeks of having hairy legs for nothing! And now I'm gonna have to shave again!!! Arrrgggh

Maybe before you shave it all you could try waxing it yourself? It's really not sore once you get over the first one, and you've been growing it this long you may aswell just have a go?

Yeah but I don't want red bumps all over my legs/bikini line when I'm on holidays!

I'm such a wimp with waxing that I can only get the nerve to have my bikini line done about 2 - 3 times per year! Again I'm petrified of pain, break out in a sweat & have been known to wimper. In hindsight it's never as bad as I expected. It's all just a big build-up, almost like a smear, never as bad as you expected, expecially if you get someone really professional. This urban place sounds brill.
I'm also in total agreement, take some Neurofen Plus or the like in advance. If you have any nurse, doc or pharmacist friend you could ask for some Emla Cream. It's really prescription only but does contain local anaesthetic so I use it prior to bikini waxing. Brill. Obviously it's not meant for this.
P.S. wouldn't recommend home waxing if it's your first time. I made a balls of it last summer & tore some skin off!
But defo go for it, worth anything.

Use the boots sensitive hair removal strips! In my experience bumps are gone within the hour and definatly by the next day! Makes your legs so much smoother than shaving too
