Has anyone been able to wrangle a Sky+ box as a self install, ie not paying for installation?

I'm already set up with a Quad and cabling for Sky+ but they tell me that on the system there is no option for a self install and that I have no choce but to pay the €45 installation?

    Has anyone been offered different.

    J

if you are a new customer who knows an existing, wait a week & you could possibly avail of a free Sky+ box and (ho-hum) pay the installation.

You can do a DIY install but you'd need to buy a Sky+ box. Lots online or contact an independent satellite installer.

Also, to obtain a viewing card, you'd need to contact Sky looking for a second-hand subscription.

Im already a sky subscriber but have the dish already set up with a quad and the cabling in place as I had been using two normal sky boxes in the sitting room (FTV and Sub). Thats why im reluctant to pay the €45. I guess if I can persuade the installer to give me the quad as a spare then it wont be too bad.

You won't get SKY themselves to agree to this. I had a prewired set up and sky would not touch it. Went to an indy and got the boxes off him and an extra dish and he got paid by sky for basically doing nothing.

If you have the dish, quad lnb, cabling and then get a sky+ sub from Sky. I've seen sky+/skyHD boxes on ebay, can you finish the install yourself from there ? Is there anything special the engineer does with the box itself ?

The "engineer" enforces the telephone connection requirement.

Cheres guys, I checked out ebay but after postage the boxes were working out much the same price as from Sky so I went with them in the end. Install booekd for Tuesday 31st lets see if they bother to turn up LOL.
