    hello there

    only recently ive had a problem with playing WMV vidoes (it could happen on other formats too but i haven't encountered it yet) but one fifth of the right hand side of the screen would go all garbled and distorted and the rest would be fine

    i know its not a problem with the video because if i resize it to be smaller than its actual resolution its fine so im assuming its a codec? i cant find anything about it on the net coz i dont really know how to phrase the problem, does anyone know what i need to do?

    thanks

    i think i only have a nvidia rage 128 or something im not sure because the comp i have at the mo is a handmedown... im pretty sure its not a hardware problem either tho because i didn't always have the problem i reckon it only happened after i downloaded something... software confliction maybe?

    Well it could be if it was a newer version of WMP and it is expecting something to be there in the driver that isn't or the driver is old and has a bug etc.

    Go into the device manager and under display adapters what does it say ?

    {NVIDIA didn't make Rage 128 chips ATI did}

    sorry my bad i used to have an nvidia and its messing me up, it is ATi...

    anyway i think i might uninstall divx and then see if its gone and reinstall coz if i recall correctly it happened around the time i downloaded divx 6.5.5 so i'll let you know how that works out

    If it's a Rage 128 the drivers are pretty ancient anyway but you can find the last set released in 2001 here.

    Try uninstalling the DivX codec plus use Media Player Classic instead of WMP as the player and use ffdshow tryouts beta 3 as the video decoder for MPC or WMP.

    Last but not least install Direct-X 9 update.
