Just got a call to say some pics I took today are in tomorrow's Star.

They are nothing special in any way, shape or form - just group shots.

Still, it's a step up from local and Danish papers!

well done again -- its kind of weird and a nice buzz seeing something you took printed -- gives you the old motivation to keep going to boot !

For the past two years I've had pics on up to 8 pages per week in a number of local Dublin papers but they were secondary to the writing.

Due to domestic circumstances I've had to give up full time working for the present to be a full time carer.

Snapping allows me to get out and about for short periods of time to earn a buck or two while at the same time givng me some personal space.;)

If you have potential photos that you could sell to a paper, how do you go about doing it?

    Well done.
Any chance to show the pictures here?

E-mail them to the paper with as much information as possible in a caption. It would help if there was a news story associated with them.
Then check the papers to see if they've printed your pic.
If they have, you'll need to invoice them.
    It's a very slow process.

Any pictures I have published the payement is sent to me without asking, they send an invoice with a cheque listing the name of the picture and the date. I have had loads of stuff published in the Irish Field and some other Polo magazines, far harder getting into the mainstream papers even when I have a newsworthy story, are they restricted to NUJ members only?

Obviously not, since I've had a picture printed.

I've been a long standing supporter of the club, almost 40 years and for the past 10 yrs or so having been eeking out a living from "soccer" journalism starting wit a website and moving to traditional print along with some radio. As I've explained elsewhere the snapping only came about as a secondary interest but has me in it's grip no, thus the thread, "Am I mad/".

Yesterday the club rang me and explained that the Star were covering the surprise visit but couldn't get a staff or agency photographer to the event. They asked could I get them out of the hole and I obliged.
