SKY+ & Losing Recordings

We installed SKY + in Feb 06 and didn't have a single problem until May 17 when box went into standby and never came out. I lost a load of recordings and had no TV for one week until the engineer came and replaced the box for free even though it was out of warranty. I still had to pay €100 for the engineer. Two weeks later, replacement box went into standby and after turning it back on SKY + recordings and playback would not appear. I had to ring SKY and they were helpful in sorting out the problem ( reset the box) but again, all the recordings were lost. The same thing happened tonight (4 weeks later) and I asked for an engineer to call but SKY won't send one out as they said the box is fixed. It is again after 15 minutes on the phone but all the recordings of shows that I hadn't a chance to see are gone. I don't want to lose more recordings when this happens again.

Is anyone else experiencing the same problems? Please help:(

You've been very unlucky. You can understand one box failing but you've gone through too many.

I'm sure you've tried the usual routine of unplugging the box for a couple of seconds and then plugging it back in again.

Do you have a surge protector of any sort on your AV equipment? Can't think of much else that could be killing your boxes.

I don't have a surge protector but I will stick one on now. The problem yesterday evening was "System fault. Sky+ playback and recording are unavailable". Rang Sky immediately but their only solution was to do a full system reset thus losing all my recordings. What else can I do to avoid this? Sky will not send an engineer.
