A couple of weeks ago the Right Hook Tuesday Travel show did a virtual round the world trip for €1200 using budget airlines (I suspect that was excluding tax). You could email them and listen in for a response. You could also look at Singapore Airlines, Emirates, KLM, British Airways and Etihad. Sorry, couldn't be ar5ed doing pretty links to their sites. Also trying ringing USIT and the Australia Travel Centre (aka Abbey Travel in Dublin). They might be able to do something for you. Keep in Mind that January is summer over there and prices will probably be quite high.

Most airlines drop their fares after their xmas and new year business is over which is usually about jan 10th. The cheap fares are starting to come out for travelling after this date so its worth checking with ebookers, austravel or australian travel centre now. Was checking etihads site myself recently and they have very good fares but thru connections only 3 or 4 times a week.

get the cheapest flight you can to Singapore(prob about €500 max) might involve short hop to London but defo should find something fairly cheap. Then use Tiger Airlines to fly to Darwin(cheapest) or Perth(bit more expensive).

For example Singapore to Darwin 19th September would cost you €89 scan the dates on the website might be something even cheaper than that.

Then use virgin blue or buy a cheap van to get around like we did
