Digital Video Recorder help

    Hey all,
Not too sure if this is the correct forum - but it's the closest i could find.

The Wife is looking to get a Digital Video Cam. She's thinking of a DVD recorder (i.e. the cam records directly to Disk).

First off - are these good? I'd imagine that any serious shaking would ruin the recording. Also, I didn't think a DVD could write fast enough to record live video (good quality), how have people found them to use?

Secondly, She's only looking to use it at parties, Kids in garden and therefore she'd like good night quality. So any recommendations (and the reasons) would be appreciated

    Thanks in advance,
    Trig
