    Hi,

We will be stopping off for up to 5 nights on our way to emigrating to Australia. Whats the weather usually like in early December? Has anyone been? any recommendations on where to stay and do (The Shangri la looks superb).

I was there on the way back from Oz for about 4 days. The first thing ill say is if you were thinking of buying a camrea or laptop before you go away, wait till you get there. Seriously cheap electronics but be prepared to haggle.
Sim Lim Square is the place to go.

I stayed in hostels so I'm not sure if your going to be in hotels or what ever. Little India is full of hostels but book early as they fill up due to the amount of traffic between europe and oz.

If your into clubbing drinking can be quite pricey, although it can be cheap aswell, its all about finding the right place to go. Zouk night club is well worth a visit, a big super club.

Other than that, the Sentosa Island is worth a look. Its a big tourist trap, but hey, thats what your going to be!

I pretty much wondered around the shops for most of my time there, trying to buy cameras for familly members

    Here are my tips:

Singapore is South-East Asia lite, but has some redeeming features.

Check out Little India at night and grab a Tiger / murtabak there and watch the fun ... it can be really noisy and colourful, one of my favourite places in Singapore.

Bussorah Street and Arab street near Bugis station are worth a wander for some funky Shisha smells and excellent Lebanese / Persian cuisine.

Chinatown is worth a look too. Try some Durian (the smelliest but tasty) fruit. Hold your nose, you can find it everywhere ...

Eat, eat, eat between the food courts in every mall and the hawkers and the regular restaurants you are spoiled for variety and quality eats. With food from all over Asia, India, China and beyond. Crab/Seafood on Boat Quay is recommended but way more expensive than in a hawker center ... (am heading down next w/end and will try some places on the East Coast - seemingly excellent)

There is a great night-safari in the Zoo - something I wouldn't have thought would be great but it really is - book in advance.

Shopping - Sim Lim, Suntec, Orchard Road, Funan (can be better than Sim Lim price / quality wise for tech). there are plenty of places to grab stuff ... electronics are much cheaper than Ireland.

Night-life : Zouk was mentioned, plenty of places in Clarke Quay but it ain't cheap as other SE Asia destinations, expect Irish like prices ... more budget oriented places around Little India and backpacker areas. You usually have to do the Singapore Sling in Raffles too ... try the top floor bar in the Swissotel for an amazing view of the City at night.

Not a fan of Sentosa - I'd give it a miss TBH.

Hotel wise I stayed in the Swissotel and it is fine and in a great location. Apart from that I was backpacking and stayed in the Inn Crowd and Sleepy Sams.

Enjoy, 5 days will give you more than enough time.
