good refund policy for ebay selling

what refund policies do people employ when selling stuff on ebay:
do people bother specifying this or is it better to be exact about it.

is there a generally accepted time period that goods should remain of merchantable quality
(e.g if they become faulty after 3 months and are out of warranty can they be returned for a refund).
is it better in this case to state some specific time limit in your refund policy about this.

also can anyone return goods simply because they don't like them even if they're as described and merchantable.
(and within what time period is it acceptable to do this).

    any advice is much appreciated.
    thanks.

Best to put an exact specification on what can be returned and when. Saves confusion or arguments with people who try to return something thay just don't want.

I've never seen an eBay seller offer more than a months warranty on anything. Again it's best to say whatever you're willing to offer. 1 month is about standard though.

That's completely up to the seller. You could just say all sales final and refuse to accept returns, unless it's faulty or not what was ordered. Some sellers accept returns but charge 10-20% re-stocking fee and make the buyer pay for the return costs. About 2 weeks from delivery would be as long as I've ever seen anyone say they accept returns.

As I sell mainly 2nd hand items, I only accept returns that are faulty (they are never sent in a condition that is not described in the listing). Buyer pays to return the item.
