Tried tuning in hotbird with a 60cm dish, got some signal quality but no picture quality. I assume the dish is too small? Is there a guide to the dish sizes required in Ireland?
    Thanks.

you should get a good few channels on hotbird with a 60cm dish. look at lyngsat and this will give you an idea of the footprint and what size is required. it recomends 50-75 cm dish for the weakest footprint over cork. you might not get every channel with a 60cm but you should get most.

Are you sure you were pointing at Hotbird, how did you confirm if you got no picture. You may be pointing at Astra 1 or 2.
I use channel Noursat on Hotbird to pick it up as it gives a good signal, plenty others do just that is one I remember & seem to pick up well. It is very much hit and miss if you happen to pick a weaker channel. A bigger dish would be recommended but you should almost definitely get many channels if aligned correctly and not raining.
You could also be trying a nonbroadcasting channel.
Also remember to check the lnb isnt rotated in the wrong direction.
Try finding Astra1 or 2 and if you can get them adequately then you should not have great difficulty getting Hotbird

I have never had a problem getting any hotbird channel with good strength and low BER using a 64 cm dish in Cork. Good alignment is absolutley critical . Get a professional to check your install.
