Anyone ever order a canvas print from photobox? If so, what's the quality like? About to order one, but they're not the cheapest so just checking for any feedback before taking the plunge.

    Cheers

Soooo, what are you getting done?

Personally I think some pictures suit canvas and some dont, any that I have seen that have be done, technically they look great with loads of texture (even ones I seen printed on a hp A3 printer at last years photovision show) it just depends on the picture.

I was thinking of getting one of these done aswell. be very interested to see how it works out for you? What did it cost you in total?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,735 ✭✭✭mikeanywhere

If its any good I'll have one myself (at your expense of course)!! :D:D

Because of the dimensions of the shot I had to go for a more expensive 'shape' canvas. €130 all inclusive for a 40cm2 mounted canvas print.

@city exile: I have a few interesting/personal fav sets that would give you a better idea of my pre-drought photos! sniff ;) Cheers

Had an order dispatched last Thursday; Guess I won't be seeing that until the end of this week :(

Ordered a few enlargements on July 11th. Arrived yesterday, 23rd - I know there was a postal strike in UK however, one of the enlargements wasn't an image of mine, so if anyone's missing a 15x10 of a beach somewhere with an island on the horizon, I have it. Not hugely impressed.

That's extremely annoying! Getting someone else's photo - what if that was someone's masterpiece! Eek

got my 50x50cm canvas print from canvas works in kinsale.

wasnt cheap but very impressed by the quality of the frame and print.

would recommend (but nothing really to compare it to)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

good good.. was wondering about them. Might stick an order through for some lovely pricey canvas in the next few weeks :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭440Hz

Ryan - did you order arrive yet?

Saw a notice on the photobox site about the Royal Mail strike, urgh!

This (canvas printing)is one of the products that seem to be more expensive on Photobox than locally, when you consider the extra P&P. I would advise anyone getting one of these done to have a look closer to home. There are two shops within 10 minutes walk of my house (1 pharmacy and 1 Art Supply shop) that do these cheaper than Photobox prices and that's not even taking into account the P&P.
You also have the advantage of being able to have a good look and feel at what you will be getting before you order.

only have a camera phone or webcam at work to do that and neither seems to show just HOW green the print is

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 292 ✭✭jubi lee

    lol sorry for laughing hmmmmm
    are you going to complain?
have you tweaked your monitor to ensure it's showing the right colours?
    Do they teak their's?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,273 ✭✭✭Morlar

Was it a black and white or colour ? I remember for a proof the lulu printing process introduced a manly pinkish colourcast tint to certain black and whites - when they were re-uploaded as grayscales it was much less noticeable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭440Hz

Yeah I have checked the image up on Flickr on loads of monitors, calibrated ones, there is a very slight tinge of green on the edges of the petals in the original, but on the canvas print, i have a green flower. argh

I rang them and they will redo it as long as I send the original back. They will refund my postage costs to return it.

Problem is... its taken nearly 3 weeks to get here. Takes 15 days to print the canvas. And this is supposed to be a gift which I need for next week.

I just don't know what to do about it tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 292 ✭✭jubi lee

send it back... ya can't give her a green flower! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭440Hz

Yeah but she doesnt live in this country. The whole point was that she is over next week and I could give it to her. It will cost me a bomb to post it over in 4 weeks time.

Ask Photobox if they will post it directly to her?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭440Hz

Yeah im sure they will. I just wanted to check it over before giving it to her you know. Im glad I did that with this order now :(

ring geometrics in ballsbridge; i paid €18 a shot for about 20 canvasses, each about halfway between A4 and A3 (they were printed to A3, but wrapped onto board, so came out smaller than A3).
no problem with them, bar the gamma on the grayscales - they came out too light, probably my fault.

you'd need to know someone who would be able to pick it up for you, though.
also paid about €100 for a single 50cm x 80cm canvas there. this was several years ago, mind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭440Hz

the 40x40cm I ordered was about £80 so p&p incl came to about €160. The quality of the print detail wise is good, and they did a nice job with the mounting, its just the hue that is the problem.

Thanks for that info though. I am thinking of sending it back for a refund and just trying to get one done in Ireland so that I might have it in time.
