    Howdy,

Bit of a silly problem. I previously had my Motorolla SURFboard cable modem (im with NTL) hooked up via usb with no problems. I recently had to reinstall windows. Now when trying to set it up with the installation disc im having a problem. It tells me to connect it via usb and it searches for it, only to tell me that it cant connect with the modem. I have tried it in all the different USB ports on the pc with no joy. I have also checked to see if the USB ports are working with other devices, they are.

It seems to be working fine when connected by ethernet but not with USB. Any ideas ?

    Why USB rather than ethernet?

This is of no help but if I had a problem with an ethernet connection - nothing would get the windows to recognise it, I reinstalled my old dail-up modem just to have a connection. The following day after a fresh boot up from cold, windows said hello to the ethernet!

Still dunno what the hell happened and I hate it when that sort of thing happpens as you are no wiser to what caused the initial problem.

    Mike..

I'm sharing the modem with my housemate. He is using the ethernet connection.
