Thought this could be an interesting idea for a thread. We all find photos everyday that we think are interesting for some reason, why not have a thread for it. I know it means posting to work that isn't our own but its all about what's interesting, and seeing things we might not come across otherwise.

I was just doing some lunch time Flickring and found this shot

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/chrismorgan/756310844/
    large

I just think its fantastic!! Look at that for action. Everything about this shot is great IMO. Have a look, see what you think... post something you have come across!

There already is a thread called "how about a random photo thread?" where people post their random pictures :-)

This is from a romanian guy on devart - its a building in bucharest (where I have been meaning to visit for a while) that I thought was pretty fantastic.

OOO that looks like an oil painting - fantastic!

edit: I just looked and you're right Rymus - the picture is all rights reserved. His flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/brianechapman/ is well worth a look though! Especially his coastal stuff.

This guy is one of my favs on Flickr, even though he has been quiet for a while http://www.flickr.com/photos/82142592@N00/

WELL worth a look. And he is great guy too, really sound.

Re what rymus said... sure as long as you credit it and dont try and pass it off as your own it should be fine, right? ... simply reposting a link to work they have publically displayed online, its promotion for them afterall.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

some may see it as promotion, others may see it differently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,319 ✭✭✭sineadw

oops... no... should i take it down? You want to delete?

Well its your call! Go ahead and mod it in whatever way you think is best. I don't see the harm personally, but its not my call.

that'd be a seriously difficult position to defend, though.
the whole internet is based on linking.

tis indeed... some people are so analy retentive about their posessions that the mad things that people do doesn't surprise me anymore. Flipside of that is, if you dont want your photos or any of your various works reproduced around the internet, don't introduce them to the internet in the first place or put sufficient security in place so people cannot reproduce them.

The above was more a disclaimer than anything... If any pissed off photographers take issue with their photo being posted here, don't take it out on boards.ie itself, take issue with the person that posted it.

This site has some pretty amazing nature shots from the pacific coast of North America, worth a look if you like that sort of thing.

Would you not consider mailing the person at least. For reasons Ryan has already stated. If someone was posting my work on t'net to give as a good example, I'd like to know.

This isn't an issue. If people post a photo on the internet, they are effectively releasing it to the public.
The fact that it's posted on here will mean nothing at all, as long as a link to the source is posted, and the poster is not claiming it as theirs.

Actually no. All rules of copyright apply every bit as much as if the image were printed in a book, unless the image has been released under creative commons license. Just because it's on the 'net and easy to download and repost doesn't mean it's free. I'd agree that most people would probably have no problem being linked to and getting exposure as long as they're given a credit and their image isn't being used for somebody else's financial gain, but asking first is nice!

Here's a shot I came across on Stumbleupon

Nice take on framing the sun.

BTW Stumbleupon is great for finding lots of photography sites and general idleness!

not this guy again! We had him here before and I think someone (Zillah IIRC) was so enraged by his obvious photoshoppery that he went off to mail him.
How many poses of a stuffed eagle can you have? Seemingly an endless number.

Surely posting a link to your Flickr pages is ok, no? That way you're not actually displaying anyone else's work? I dunno, the whole copyright thing is a bit of a mystery to me...a bit like flash photography ;)

Hope I'm not being bold posting this,

Maybe someone has seen it before and knows who the photographer may be..

It's not a problem legally, but it's manners moreso than anything else, to say that we're talking about a persons photo, whether it be praise or bitching!

    Flash = www.strobist.com :)

D'ya remember that photo of mine that was Dugg? Well at least there it was linked back to my Flickr. It got 167,000 hits in the end. Some other moronic piece of sh!t site put it up too with no reference to me. It got over 250,000 hits there. I didn't bother mailing them (I'd have to join up etc etc) and I also am keen on keeping my blood pressure in some sort of decent range of safety :(

That is not nice. (Said in very ironic voice)
If not respect, so at least politeness would be nice.

Easy and simple way for really "aerial" photography.
