Garmin map on DVD or SD?

I'm going to the US shortly and will purchase a US NT road map from the Garmin website, send it to a US address and have them forward it to me in Ire - seems to be the cheapest option. I'm really only interested in travelling between 2 states. Is there any advantage to purchasing on DVD or SD. My main query is do both have the same detail? If I buy the DVD can I transfer sections of it to a blank SD? Thanks in advance.

If you get the DVD then you can then view the maps on your pc and load up the specific map segments that you require or have space for on your memory card, if you get the SD card then you only have access to the maps via the GPS unit.

Why not just buy a Garmin with US maps already installed at Best buys or Radioshack for $100?
