Was thinking of setting one up myself as my current G is not cutting it - specifically for using the xbox360 media extender for streaming vids from my pc (located a good distance away)

Was thinking of getting the Apple Airport Extreme. anyone know if its worth the hefty price? also, what N card should i get for my pc?

I know N is still in draft so would I be better off waiting?

anyone with one let us know how it performs!

We have one of these. Although we don't have any N devices, the G side of it seems better than a dedicated G Access Point.

Having said that, I don't know if it's just my perception or wheter it IS actually better.

It might not be a bad idea to move your access point to a better position in your house / office. Maybe more centrally or closer to all wireless devices.

In an ideal world of course :D House is 3 stories and access point is on bottom floor with 3 wired devices, pc on top. exceedingly difficult to re-arrange without cost/degredation of performance in other areas.

would loved to have etherneted the whole house but tis a big job!

Peats have a really good offer at the moment:

I am using the Apple N at the moment but also use the previous Airport extreme g version as a network extender - it works really well even in the G mode

It should be noted that 802.11N is still very much in " Draft " mode.

What this means is that there is still a lot of stuff to iron out in that standard , the last time I checked there were 3000+ outstanding items in the draft , so the final version may be quite different to what your paying for now.

    From the Wiki ,
After the announcement of the Draft 1.0 of 802.11n, many vendors announced "pre-n" transceivers and routers based upon that document. It has been reported, however, that these products can interfere with, and even disable, some current 802.11b and 802.11g wireless networks.[5] It is also uncertain whether products using draft versions of 802.11n will remain compatible with the finalized 802.11n standard

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/802.11_non-standard_equipment

And these are the current status bulletins , as you can see , tis not finished !

    http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/802/11/Reports/tgn_update.htm

So buyer beware , there is no guarantee yet that 802.11n draft standard equipment will still work with the final version.

My apologies, I made a huge assumption that you already knew that. Shame on me.
