VAT specifically 0% VAT

    Hi there,

    Just seeking clarification on something.

Take the supplements or vitamins you see in shops such as Holland & Barrett or Tony Quinn's items like creatine monohydrate, l-glutamine etc. in powder form.

I am saying that they are 0% VAT as they are classed as food/vitamin supplements designed for oral consumption. An accountant friend who called the UK and also checked for creatine under the drinks section of VAT rates on the revenue.ie site thinks they should be 21%.

I have since been to Argos and got a 0% vat receipt for a tub of creatine powder from them. JJB's a large sport store said 0%, Tony Quinn, Nature's Way, Holland & Barrett, Health Store all said the same thing i.e. they are food supplements. So much so that all of the CO's listed except Argos and JJB's could not give one a VAT receipt - no facility instore.

Lastly UPS told me that if one imported creatine from the USA you would be liable for duty but not VAT.

Just wondering what the view in here is? Many thanks for any help!
