Driving test - questions asked by tester?

I was given a list of 32 questions and answers by my pretest instructor on questions I may be asked by the tester, along the lines of where not to park, what is a broken yellow line for, national speed limit etc. He told me I would be asked around 8 from the 32, he lead me to believe they only have a pool of 32 questions, is this really the case?

Other than that will they ask me to identify certain signs, or is that now a thing of the past due to the provisional theory test?

What happens if you get some of the questions wrong, are you penalised for it?

Roughly how long does the test last?

I'll also accept last minute advice with open arms.

    Thanks

Any chance you could post the list?

Yes, actually if someone could answer that question it would be of great use to me too - my test is next week.

Also, how are we interrogated on the Rules of the Road? Is it like the theory test where you sit in front of a computer and choose the relevant answer? Or are you not given any multiple choices and are you just expected to answer the correct answer aloud to the examinator?

Any help on this very welcome at this stage - starting to panic here because I've just been told today that it's next week!!

    Thanks!

It may have changed over the years but they used to ask a few basic questions and then ask you to identify a few signs. Nothing to get too worked up over. Anyone with a reasonable knowledge of driving rules shouldn't have any problem.

The questions relating to "overtaking on the left" and "using dipped lights" used to be dead-certs.

They still ask you questions on signs as you still need to know them, and believe it or not there are still people on provisionals that didn't do the theory test.
What happens if you get some of the questions wrong, are you penalised for it?
I was told by my pre-tester or else read somewhere that it takes three wrong answers to get a grade 2 mark, so you shouldn't worry about getting a couple wrong.
Roughly how long does the test last?
bit of a how long is a piece of string. for mine it was about 5-8 minutes being asked questions, another 5-8 out with the car, checking the lights worked and I know the different bits and pieces and maybe 20 minutes driving. but you are told it can last from about 40 to 50 minutes.

If your driving is up to scratch you shouldn't worry about the questions, but if you think you might get marks from your driving study the rules of the road very well. and know the bits and bobs of your car.

    I took mine recently.

    Identify 4 road signs

Answer four rules Qs like, when to use dipped lights, are L drivers allowed on Motorway, stuff you will/should know anyhow.

Read the rules of the road. And again. And again. Try to understand them. And you'll be fine! Best of luck :)

    the extreme right hand lane

That answer is not exactly correct.

In the new Rules of the Road - Junctions See:-
Turning right from a one-way street

Drive as close as you safely can to the right-hand side of the one-way street. Look out for areas where two lanes may be allowed for turning right.

Otherwise One Way streets:- following applies
When turning right from a one-way street, drive as close as you can to the righthand side.

No lanes, keep right. Lanes, use appropriate.

I think this one should actually be changed into a sticky - those questions are exactly what is being asked, could be useful to all people taking the test!

    Cheers

Seeing as this has been dragged up...
As part of a trial for an updated driving test, there is a new style of question being asked by certain examiners.
They are showing a picture and asking the test candedate what they would do. For example a picture of some parked cars and a ball on the road. There is a section in the theory test like this, but now you well have to volunteer the answer.

I want to do my D-licence.
There are many new rules, especially about where to apply for the licence.
In many countries, moving from a D1 licence to a full D licence is treated as an "upgrade". In Ireland, it is treated as if the applicant has never driven a (commercial) vehicle before.
It seems that the would-be "D" driver will have to start from scratch again, beginning with a provisional licence.
    Does anyone have some advice?
    Thanks

I had a test today. I was asked Rules of the Yellow Box junction, when to use dipped headlights, speed limit of the vehicle for national road and motorway.
Signs : Clearway, pedestrian zone, stop sign and traffic lights.

    Had my test yesterday.

Was asked about when to enter a yellow box, why you might overtake on the left, why you would use full beam headlights and I think one or two more that I don't remember.

The road signs I was asked were a few of the warning signs, the contra flow bus lane one, clearway, and a few motorway ones.

In the car after the bonnet checks he asked how I would demist my back window, how to turn on my hazard lights and my wipers.

As far as I know if you get 3 incorrect you get a grade 2 and they can only give you one. As in even if you get all the questions wrong they can only give you one grade 2. Obviously learn them as best as you can because it could be the difference between a pass and a fail. I got 8 grade 2s yesterday and if I had gotten a grade 2 for the pre-test questions I would've failed the test completely.

    Good luck! :)

Passed my driving test today, so happy. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Thanks tictoc for your advice about making a mistake and correcting it cause that happened me on a roundabout in the first few minutes of the test.

    Questions I was asked were:
what does a white unbroken line mean?
rules of the yellow box junction.
The signs I was asked were no overtaking, level crossing with gates or barriers, clearway, dangerous corner

Then on the engine of the car
water for wipers, engine oil, brake fluid.

    inside the car:
deminster for the back window, hazard lights, full beam lights.

Was asked hand signals later on during the driving test.

Goodluck to anybody doing the test!!!
