Can anyone tell me what the problem is here?

I just had my first ever roll of 35mm film printed (I've only ever used digital). Some of the photos were fine, but most of them had very large flaws like the examples below. I know absolutely nothing about film, so I was wondering if somebody could tell me what has happened these pictures, and if it's possible what the most likely cause of it is. I checked the negatives, the problems are on these as well. The camera is an old Pentax ME SLR, with a roll of Kodak 400 speed bog-standard film in it. The lens is a Vivitar 28-90mm f2.8, if that makes any difference...

Sorry about the laughable quality of the examples, I just wanted to get it done quickly.

    Thanks.

looks like extra light got into the camera during exposure or the Lab didn't open the film canister in complete darkness

Yeah looks like a bit of a light leak? You could try putting another roll through and leave it in a different lab. If its the same I'd say you have a problem with the camera, maybe the back isn't closing properly?

Light leaks in the camera. Check how well the back is fitting and that all the seals are in good condition.

Thanks for the replies. Just had a look at the camera and the back looks like it's curved outwards a little too much - would it be a good idea to put some black tape on all the edges? I'll see what happens with the next roll of film anyway.

This happened to me when I rolled the film into the camera - I opened the roll "mouth" a littlebit. Sometimes it happens when you pull out the new film to insert it properly into your camera.
