    Hi All,

I have tried to mount a canon EF 70-200mm L IS USM f/2.8 to my 350D and when i try to take a snap the shutter works but the lcd displays an error 01 message. I am of the understanding that this lens works with the 350D.

I have tried many different canon lenses on my 350D body (a 15mm fisheye, 17-85 IS USM) and they all worked fine. Also, the lens works fine on my friends 20D

Anyone know what may be the problem?

    Thanks

I think that error relates to communication error between camera and lens. Try removing the lens, cleaning the connection pins on the lens and camera and then attach the lens again.

Not knowing anything about Canon stuff but when you use old lenses with Nikon DSLRs you normally have the set the aperture ring all the way closed, or else it'll give a similar error. Might be worth looking at.

PaulW, you are correct, it is a comm error.

I will try to clean these pins - any tips on what to use, where to get it and how to do it?!!-

However, its strange that a faulty connection could be the case because the lens works with the 20D and the 350D works with all other lenses ive attached

cleaning collectors.. maybe alcohol and cotton bud, if its tarnished then maybe a gentle polish with an UBER fine emery cloth

tried the lens with a second 350D body today and got the same error, the lens continues to work on the 20 &30D. This is why I don't think it's the connectors cleanliness

try connecting it thru an extension tube (or tele extender).
    A long shot I know.

FWIW, I have the non IS version of that lens for my 350D and it works perfectly.

Funnily enough, last night I mounted it on the body and got that error your'er seeing. I only had to remove and replace it again though so its not much use to you.
