Civ4 - Beyond the sword and patch woes

Just a heads up for those of you who are getting Beyond the Sword or are about to apply the newest patch for Civilization IV.

It would appear that the new patch is not compatible with save games from the previous version. Those of you who are playing PBEM games may wish to hold off on updating.

There is a work around which is as follows:
    • Load the last save file you have in an unpatched version of the game.
    • When prompted for the password enter the admin password (assuming you still have it)
    • Reset the admin password to nothing. You can do this from the game details menu option
    • Then save the game.
    • Patch up to the new version and load the file you just saved.
    • Reset the admin password.
    • Once more save and foreword the turn on.

On a side note we'll be starting another PBEM game of shortly for the new expansion so if you're interested give us a shout.

meh - way too *cheap to buy the expansion.

And too lazy to pirate it.........

*translates as a refusal to buy any Sid Meier product new since buying Civ3, then having to pay extra for the PTW expansion to get the promised multiplayer. Bastids.

Is it worth getting? Much change?

There's quite a bit of change. It takes in a load of the changes from warlords, but not all the content. More races/leaders, updates to espionage and the introduction of corporations.

But the real value for me is the updates to multiplayer.

Worth getting I'd say from what I've seen so far.

I forgot all about this expansion. Is it on sale everywhere? and roughly how much?

I've never played civ4 multiplayer and never really planned to.

I'll have a look about and see whether its worth getting.
    Cheers for info rev.

Its definitely worth the money. Warlords wasn't on reflection but this is a no-brainer.

If you fancy some Beyond the Sword PBEM nows the time to stick your name down since we're in the process of getting a game up and running.

Its done in a sequential fashion with turns posted onto the forum.
Typical speed for a 4-6 player game is one turn each 1 to 2 days, the games have lasted 8+ months.
