I just wondered if anyone here had used Ortho K lenses or had any success (or disasters!)with them? They are corrective contact lenses used only at night to treat short sightedness. According to things I've read and a recent feature on sky news wearing them at night can give 20/20 vision and erradicate the need to wear glasses or other contacts in the daytime. According to some theyre miraculously effective. They're supposed to be used more wisely in the UK but I haven't heard of it in Ireland. If it worked it would be a great and much cheaper alternative to laser treatment.Anyone have any insight on the subject?

This is the Sky News link for anyone interested in quickly seeing what it's about : http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30100-1276152,00.html

i know someone in the uk who uses them. (altho i dont remember her calling them ortho k) She has a slight astigmitism. She thinks they are great but did say that they took some gettin used to at first as they are a different material than standard lenses.

She did say that at best she now gets 5 days without needing to put the lenses back in again

one of the optician's in dublin city centre does them. sorry i cant remember the name but its around the corner from specsavers on grafton st.

Thanks faceman. Good to hear they've worked out for someone and also that there are more than 2 opticians in the country providing the service. On the offical website there are only 2 listed in Ireland. I'm in Galway. Anyone heard of any optician in Galway who does it ?

ask the Association of Optometrist, Ireland.
    01-4538850
They have a database of providers of the various optical services nationally.
