My years contract with SKY sinced i got SKY plus is just over....
and still we do not have BBC News 24 BBC Three nor BBC FOUR on the epg..not to mention the BBC Radio stations.
This means SKY Plus cannot record these channels.
Has anyone made calls to SKY for these? I did a year ago but no positive responce.
It seems crazy that we do not have them as all other digital operators here have them...
Is it a case of being patient, SKY will eventually add them?
    ..Restless.

You have to add these channels in manually. They will never be in the epg because we aren't part of the UK and we don't pay the licensees fee. That's not Sky's fault.

What have the BBC said about this matter?

It's up to Sky to reach a commercial agreement with BBC Worldwide to get the extra beebs on the Irish EPG (as they have done for BBC 1 and 2 and the cablecos would have done for the rest of the beebs).

With NTL/Chorus/UPC using BBC Three, Four and CBBC etc as a selling point, Sky may eventually want to pay BBC Worldwide to feature them on the Irish EPG, thus undermining the cablecos advantage. Presumably at the moment they don't feel that it's worth the price that BBC Worldwide are looking for.

The BBC have said that while they are FTA, and can be received in Ireland, they are not able to spend money on providing an Irish service, nor do they intend to promote their service in Ireland. They only pay Sky for UK EPG.

Sky pays BBC for BBC1 NI and BBC2 NI on the Irish EPG as part of the ROI package. Sky will only pay for the other channels if they can see a commercial viable demand. It's hard to see how Sky can get extra money from the subscribers for it. You can buy a FTA PVR.

    Thanks for your replies....
I much appreciate the details some of you went into....
Here is how I will approach the issue-
I will email sky in the coming days, as my years contract is up-
and explain that unless they add the channels in the immediate future, I will indend cancelling my contract.
If need be, I may consider using a NI relative- us etheir address and get all the channels minus TV3 which is not available up there.
    Issue solved.
Using a FreeToView card may be an option-
Thanks again for the answers in the last 24 hours

They're unlikely to add teh channels in the immediate future, but it will be interesting to see what they reply with.

NI subscription is indeed best of both worlds :D

Good idea, couldn't see much happening but you should post up the response that you receive...

Wasn't there a thing here couple of years ago, some campaign or something to get the BBCs onto Sky EPG in Ireland?
