using aib laser card online

i got an aib laser card (one of the new blue cards with laser and maestro symbol on it).
i understand that this card can be used online for irish sites that have the maestro symbol.

such sites however seem to require a cv2 number which i don't have with my card. on the other hand some sites say to just leave the cv2 box blank.

so basically has anyone successfully used their laser card online without a cv2 number ie by just inputting the card number.
if so would this be less secure than using it with a cv2 number (just inputting the card number seems very non-secure tbh).

btw anyone know if expansys.ie accepts laser cards.
any advice appreciated.

Nope expansys.ie won't accept laser as far as I know. I am not sure about your first question.

Sadly the AIB debt card (Laser/Maestro) won't work online at all.

Yeah it will. I just bought some stuff off cdwow yesterday with my AIB Laser/Maestro.

what did you put in for your cv2/security code.

if you put nothing in the box would that mean anyone who knew your card number could just buy stuff with it (using their own name/address of course).

im trying to buy off the warehouse website with my laser card and i clicked the maestro option, but theyre still lookin for the cv2 number...

does anyone know is there a number on the card im missing?

I think you can just try putting 000 into the box as some systems understand that Laser card's don't have CV2 numbers

There was an article in the Irish Times a couple of months ago saying how AIB and other Irish banks had deliberately not put cv2 numbers on their laser cards. They gave some security reason but the article claimed that they didn't want people shopping online with laser they wanted them to use credit cards instead

Isn't Warehouse a UK company? UK Maestro is not the same as Irish Maestro AFAIK.

Check the Payment Options on the site. Unless it says you can use Irish Laser then you can't.

Not many sites take Laser. CD Wow do, as do some cinemas, and I think there's a sticky on here to say where else.

My BOI Laser card has a CVV number on it.

I noticed that Cdwow no longer list Laser as one of their payment options too. Still has Maestro, but I don't know if Laser will work in that case as I haven't tried it.

Just noticed that. That's annoying. Laser was listed as an option last time I bought something 2 weeks ago.

Edit: I e-mailed CD Wow about the Laser issue and got this reply:

Please be informed that currently the laser card is not getting accepted onour website for temporary basis; although I can assure you that our ITdepartment is working intently in order to rectify them as quickly as possible.

the number is on the back of the card....it is usually the last 3 digits on their own.....at least it is with my BOI laser card...

I have a AIB laser card and it has the cvv2 number at the back.There is a little box at the back of the card with 3 numbers..I think its only the newest bunch of laser cards that have the cvv2 number because my brother had one but it didnt have the cvv2 number but a few months ago he hot sent a new one with the 3 digits at the back

aib laser card does work online but only on a limited number off site. most site dont have it added. and there is no cvv2 number with them so if it is required then you can use it!!

The newer cards seem to be proper maestro cards. With a longer number and a CVV2 code. I have the older one and it wouldn't work in ticket machines abroad recently, but the newer ones would.

You can use it on CDWOW.ie, i use it all the time. Enter 999 for the cv2 number

Websites usually use a third party payment service. Something like sagepay.com and on their site it accepts Laser so theoretically any site using this for their payment could accept Laser. I think the snag might be that only charges in Euro can be made against laser this way...

Some do, most don't Most online casinos like Paddy Power & 888.com do and the odd retailer, You best option is to get a 3v card imo, for hwne you csannoy us Laser. IF the 'card number' accepts 17 digits in the laser (as opposed to a 16 digit credit card), it is best putting '000' as the security code. Again, this works in some places but not most.

Which leads me to a new question.... being new to internet banking as of today, would there be any way to perform a 3V Top-up via net banking, as you can with mobile phones?

Basically to the OP, keep your laser and get a 3v card (they are free & their registration forum is as simple as setting up an email account - www.3v.ie ). If you live in/near Dublin the Centra near the Swan centre in Rathmines dioes it (late night/24hr sjop), as fo both 'Kavanaghs; shops directly beside Dublin Business School on Augier/Georges Streets. Also Centrs in the Templeogue Village. They have a list of retailers on their site, but apparently not all of them work. The ones I mentioned 100% definitely do.
