    Hi,

Not sure about California but for Vegas the best book I have found is the Time Out city guide. You can get one for SFO & LA. Cheapest place to get them is off ebay.

For up to date info on Vegas shows etc check out vegas.com

I am off to Vegas in Sept for my 4th trip there so I can vouch that it will be a great visit.

I did the route 1 trip myself a couple of years ago....FANTASTIC. LA is a complete dump but SFO and Vegas were amazing. We also went to San Diego which was good as well.

It would be better to get someone to share the driving when you are on Route 1, the views are great but the road is VERY twisty and when you are driving you need to keep your wits about you and as a result miss a lot of the scenery.

    Have fun

I did a similar trip a couple of years ago. Bought the Lonely Planet guide for California, and as I was only in Vegas a few days bought the Lonely Planet Las Vegas city guide which was a small, pocket sized book. Both were excellent for what I needed.

    Hey,

I'm not back long from a similar trip - got the Rough Guide to California as that includes Vegas and the Grand Canyon too - found it very handy.

Check out play.com to get it cheap.
