Acquiring new license for music on PC

 Hey, just wondering if anybody can help me out....
I used to run an old dell desktop running windows millennium a few years ago. I soon got the good sense to get rid of it and buy a whole new system. However i wanted to save some of the stuff i had on my old system, particularly the music i had saved. I therefore burned most of it onto blank cds and stored them away. I found these the other day and remembered all the old music i had burned onto them. unfortunately when i tried to play the music on my new computer (running XP Pro) windows Media player will not allow them to be played. It says that they are "locked" because it cannot access license info. My question is, is there a way of acquiring new licenses? I know that it can be easily done by going back to the old system and searching for it there, but this is not an option for me as i threw the old one out long ago.
if anyone can gimme some advice it would be greatly appreciated....

Where did you originally get the music from? Did you rip it yourself? If so, what with?

Are they .mp3, .wma, .aac or what extension?

This is what you get for buying DRM infected music. I hope you learned your lesson. The advice I would give you is obtain replacement copies that have no DRM on them, and make sure you tell everyone you know not to buy downloaded music.

Well... I robbed/copied a couple of songs from my cousins laptop to listen to on my machine. Through WMP it striaght away asked me to DL new licence. So I did. Music worked fine. :)

Ditto. I hope you still have the old setup intact, in Media Player you may be able to "Back up licenses." I've never done it so I can't tell you how well it works, but I know that there is a license repository with every Windows/Media Player installation and it claims to offer a backup facility.

It may be possible to salvage your music.

But in future, don't piss away your money on DRM infested garbage.

depending what type of music you are into there are download sites that do not have drm that prevents the copying of music on their tunes so look into it
