my printer

My printer will not print anymore. I have gone into system pref. and everything looks ok. I even reinstalled it. The printer can print out a test sheet, but it will not print out web pages or any forms i do.

I was just wondering if this ever happened before to anyone ?

It's a hp deskjet 3820 series, i have this printer about 2 or 3 years now.

Story --- may have something to do with it ---- my brother was using my computer on thursday and he told me he tried to print out something and it would not come out. He said he did what he always did, he knows how to work it. BUT, at the time of printing his two and a half year old daughter ( my lovely niece) was sitting on his lap. I am just wondering did she happen to hit something, by accident, on the keyboard??????

I have been trying so hard since yesterday to get this working, it should work --- all it keeps saying is -- jobs stopped ---

I hope this has happened before to someone cause i cannot see how anyone can help me here. But what the hell i had to ask, just in case.

Have you tried going in to Printer Setup Util, deleting the printer from the list and re-adding it? Are you using it as a Rendezvous printer or plugg'd?

When you see 'jobs stopped' is the 'resume' buttong enabled on the the menu (ie greyed out or normal), if its normal, and you select it im guessing nothing happens?

Some stupid questions I know... just trying to get an overall picture.

no, they are good questions 440Hz,

I did delete the printer and re-added it again.
It says it is directly attached via usb ( which is correct)

When i go to print something , the normal box appears, i select start or print ( forget which one) then a message comes up " Printing of jobs for this printer is stopped. Do you want to continue and restart the printing of jobs"

then nothing happens after i press continue. When i look into it
It says hold and jobs stopped, i click it so it says resume and start jobs. But nothing happens. Beside the picture of the printer it says jobs stopped.

Have you tried to delete any jobs listed for printing ? Maybe one of them is set to an incorrect paper size or has just fooked up somehow. From Page Setup in the app you're printing from, is the correct paper size specified ? Is your main printer selected from the drop down menu ? You're not for example saving (printing) to PDFs or to Fax ?

Try printing from another account on the computer. A suggestion here is to enable the root account from within /applications/utilities/Netinfo Manager. This saves creating another account, just remember to disable it afterwards in the same manner.

Are the ink levels ok, my Canon i965 refuses to print when one of the colours is empty. Does the printer give any indication of activity at all ?

I got it working again. From 1 - 530 today ( ok, i walked away from my computer a few times, half an hour at most) i stuck into it, i tried everything.

I even uninstalled it again and re-installed it. this time the system pref did not pick it up for a while.
And i tried stuff i had done yesterday.

In the end, and i reckoned this was the key to it i downloaded a new adobe reader. reader 8. AND i went to the hp support site and downloaded new driver readers or something like that, for the printer. Even though hp told me i did not need to download it, i did.
