Hi guys, I have a missing boot sequence file in Win 2000. I have booted from cd-rom, typed "R" to repair, then "C" to enter recovery console. There it says "Which Windows 2000 installation would you like to log onto" It gives me just 1 option "1: C:\WINNT". So i type "1" and on the next line it says "C:\WINNT". Where do I go from here ? Any help much appreciated.

From there, there are a set of commands [see here]. What do you want to fix?

AFAIK, there is an option to allow Windows to do a DIY-job recovery, checking for problems itself and trying to fix them having booted from the CD.

any idea which file is missing ?? this is important because it's very difficult to recover from some recovery console options !

if it's ntldr then it's either the boot.ini pointing at the wrong place or something serious
    bootcfg /list

not to sure about W2K but in WinXp you can press F8 (f10 in w2k i think) after first boot and select the "Safemode with a command prompt" option. Select the OS and then login as the admin. Once logged in launch the following command "c:\windows\system32/restore\rstrui.exe" this will launch the windows system restore wizard and help you restore the system. This path maybe different in w2k prolly have to stat the winnt directory rather than windows.

As Ethernet stated in win2k also you should be able to boot to the OS CD and repair the installation which basically copies over all the original system files.

There is no system restore in Windows 2000 - otherwise I'd probably use it instead of XP (!)
