Gas Blowbacks?

In the future I would like to get a Pistol where the slide would move/react
just like the real thing when fireing. And stay back if the mag
is empty. I am guessing that the only airsoft
goodies that do this are gas powered? or gas blowback.
Since airsoft pistols wont have the same noise level as real steel
by getting one with a Silencer fitted it would add to the effect
that the actual sound coming from the pistol may be what it would
sound like in real life with a silence attached.

so as a newbie I need advice.

Most places only sell those little disposable CO2/Propane/green
tiny gas cartridges via surface mail and not airmail and someplaces
dont post at all. If I was to get some sort of gas operated pistol
I would need to make sure that in Ireland I would be able to get
a steady and cheap supply of the gas that I would need, and a way
of either recharging or getting disposable refills.

Anyone care to fill me in with the ins and outs of gas block backs ?
I have not seen anything in the stickies that explain how things work.

bullets..on the co2 thing, i think most of them are over 1J and therefor against the law..

yeah gas blowbacks are what you want, i think the sigs take silencers? if you get a full metal one it'll take propane which can be bought in b&q but you have to import a propane adaptor.

you could also buy a ebb, electric blowback, but they are underpowered and quiet

Gas blowbacks were limited to the horror of having to import green gas until a recent study to find out what green gas actually was.

Turns out it's just bog standard propane with a bit of silicone oil and a smelling agent.

You're able to buy a propane adapter from airsoft innovations. Fit it to the top of a camping propane tank and you fill the mags up with it.

    Nice and cheap.

Seems to be a bit of a problem locating small bottles of propane though. Most shops are stocking the camping propane/butane mix.

As far as I know, you can get bottles out in b&q

you can get a metal gbb. it has all the click, clack sound for loading and can also take some of the higher pressure gases. what you need is a standard gbb as i said steer clear of the co2 thing. i coild be wrong, but from memory the co2 ones can hit 500fps or so....way way over the legal limit here.
on the metal ones there is a company called airsoft innovations that sells an adaptor for propane bottles that you can buy in b&B (the small bottles not the barbecue ones). the normal airsoft gas is quite expensive and has silicone oil mixed in with it, so every time you fill, you oil yor gbb (or so the theory goes). ordinary propane obviously does not have that so what most people do , is put a few drops on the adaptor or spray the magazine with normal silicone oil (again you can get that anywhere). do not use any other lubricant. so dont use normal oil or any of the man made jobbies..they tend the fuk up the internals of your gbb..

the gbb does leave the slide back when it fires the last bb...so they are accurate in that respect.

you can also get a newish thing called hardkick, where the redirect the gas the give you a simulated 'kick' after firing.

some of the higher priced ones are very accurate, with the logos etc..if thats what you want...you can strip them and oil with silicone oil as well...how accurate they are for field stripping, basically dont have a clue..sorry

    cheers for the replys guys.

Saw the propane adapter today it looked very plastic and orange?

When you say they take Propane. Is it a part of the pistol itself that
gets filled with propane thats non remove-able or a separate canister thats charged or that is replaced with precharged canistors
that then gets loaded into the pistol in someway.

Got any links to electric blow backs? after a bit of surfin in my ignorance
I only assumed that they were all gas operated. If something is battery
operated then it may be easier to just recharge by plugging in rather than
    chasing gas products.

With a Pistol like what I want I would only by buying one so Cost would not be
an issue. (I say that now!!!!) With other stuff like AEG's I will buy loads!

ebbs are pretty crap, run off AA batt, not good at all stick with gas

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 828 ✭✭✭whupass

the gas is injected into the bottom of the magasine and stays in a resevoir in the mag

Just so you know, not all GBB's will slidelock when empty e.g. the VP70 doesn't slidelock. Not all full metal GBB's can take propane but most can, it's more to do with the strength of the internals then the externals. Some non full metal GBB's can take propane e.g. the "Ceska" CZ75 which has a metal slide but ABS plastic lower body.

KJ Works SIG SAUER P226 and Berreta M9 are good full metal options, both have slide lock, can run on Propane and are powerfull and accurate. My P226 fires about 300fps with propane and has good accuracy. I've gotten a few kills at up to 70 feet firing one handed, very good for a GBB pistol.

Best thing to do is decide on a pistol you like and then do a search on the net for reviews. Most stuff out there has at least one or two good reviews.

That was probably the plastic cap that you were looking at - the adapter itself is metal, and solid as a rock. I have one myself.

The gas goes into the magazine itself - you fill it like you would a cigarette lighter, and with most of them, one fill of gas will let you empty the mag of BB's twice. that depends on temperature though...in colder weather, you'll get less power from your gas.

So if money was not an issue! What would be be best
blow back our there that is Legal in EIRE ?
I will buy just need to research first and get peeps opinions.

My likes would be Modern Looking/Black/Real Looking/Full Metal/Fitted of a Silencer/Gas Blowback, Hard Kick effect. Looks wise I like SIG's, Berrettas,
    USP, Walthers.

Dont like Crome coloured ones or ones with wood effect handgrip panels,
while Glock-alikes are nice they loo too common. SIG would be my favourite.

    FN57PRE-L.jpg

400 smackers is a bit much! starting price in Galway for a real sig
is 325 Euros!. So Airsoft stuff should be cheaper.
I like the Sig P226! I am probably willing to spend around 200 Euro on a GBB..

The FN is a favourite make of mine. Dunno bout those grey bits thought
and am not keen on a big blade tomahawk like front sight.

I want something that can mimic as best as possible the real deal
that I can have a bit of fun with out my back garden and show
friends. I know that sounds childish but I am very responsible when
    it comes to safety etc.
If accurate all the better can shoot some paper targets
without the hassle of the pain and torment and sheer hell you would
go through it you were to attempt to get the real deal.

Will look into getting that propane adapter. If eirsoft.ie get
something I like I will buy and would like to buy local.
Meantime will try surf for the best around

Just bought a KJ Works SIG Sauer P226 Rail from Airsoft direct.
It would not accept my credit card details so I payed via paypal.
Only thing is now I got two different confirmation emails with
two different order numbers so hopefully they dont try and charge me twice.

Have not looked into gas yet or adapters etc
Tempted by the beretta too so thats another
    future buy.

The SIG is really nice. If you're going for a Beretta in the future i recommend the HFC m92 m199, i know a lot of the guys here have HFC berettas as they helped deciding on a beretta. It has some awesome power on it and then the bonus of full metal.

Got a reply back from Airsoft direct saying its the first
order they have got for a full metal gun to be sent to ROI
and there were unsure of the customs regulations and procedures

Only thing I know is that if its under 1 joule then it aint a firearm,
and its not a paintball marker so does not need any letter of permission from
    the Gardai.

Its starting to worry me now that it may get held up in Customs
or I will have some Gardai special task for breaking down my door at
4 in the morning thinking I am some sort of Criminal.

The fact that it's made out of metal means nothing. It's all just to do with the muzzle velocity.

I have a full metal pistol myself. As do many of the other people who use this forum. Nothing at all to be worried about!

Naw I've been lucky with regards to customs, no cc yet. Others have not been as lucky thou getting hit with charges on every delivery. As for the Gardai as long as you don't wave it around in public and its under 1j you should be ok.

As regards buying them don't talk to me

The Airsoft Family currently consists of

KJ Works Sig P226 Full Metal
    HFC Beretta M190
    WA 1911a with Silencer
    KSC S&W M945
    AGM MP40
    HFC USR11
    CYMA AK74
    Galaxy MP5 PDW

(and no Oisin I ain't going to quit Airsoft have really enjoyed the 3 skirmishes I've attended so far, despite getting the bejaysus shot out of me!)

Ordered BB's at the same day as I ordered the KJ-P226. (23rd)
Got the BB's Today but no sign of the P226!
Its Torture waiting!!!! Especially after watching those
    Practical Pistol videos!

    (Got 10,000 BB's for 17 Euros I reckon thats a bargain)

The Odd thing is the BB's were sent via the Slow Post standard method
and the Pistol was sent via a speedier, trackable and signed for Service.
I would have thought that would have come first.
Royal Mail still says being processed for delivery abroad!
I know there are strikes and floods so that may be the cause.
The Lad in airsoft direct said he put a note for Customs in the package
in case it was seized and opened so hopefully it has not.
