Past All-star nominations

Does anyone know if there's any site online that lists all previous all-star nominations? Not a list of the winners. The 45 nominations for each year (the shortlisted three names per position). I can find recent individual years on various sites but not a comprehensive list in one place.

Sounds like you have a bet with someone on a player being nominated for an all-star? Go-on tell us who?

Well not quite. That's sort of where it started. Not quite from a bet now. I'd a notion that there has only ever been one footballer who got shortlisted (didn't win one that year though) for an All-Star despite not playing even one minute of championship football at all that year. (I won't mention his name now because I don't want this going off on a tangent). I'd said this to some lad and he thought I was talking crap and I was trying to find out for definite on the internet. It would have been from the second half of the nineties I think. I don't know if I remember it from the time (I think this must be the case) or if I heard it since. There's also the chance that I might have my information mixed up.

I was then just interested from that to know of all the people who got nominated and then if there were statistics like who got nominated the most or who got nominated the most but never actually won one. I'm sure that there must be some great footballers who were unlucky to be around at the same time and in the same position as other great footballers who kept winning them. I could be wrong, and feel free to correct me, but again I think that the All-Stars used to be position-specific as opposed to line-specific , i.e three left corner backs, three full backs and three right corner backs rather than nine from the full back line. I also have a feeling that there used to be a restriction that you could not be nominated if you were sent off during the championship. Again this may be incorrect as I don't know where I am remembering this from.

I thought that maybe someone on here might know if there was a website with the sort of information I'm looking for.

you could try typing the players name into wikipedia and it should have that down as a fact for him if its true.

Jesus, theres a fact i didnt know (maybe others here did)

1974 Kevin Heffernan - won the Texaco Footballer Of The Year and is the only man to win the award, not as a player, but as a manager.

Would an email to the GAA be of any use?

You could try but if the Leinster Council is anything to go by, dont expect a response.

Heres another little gem from the all-stars - slightly off subject - a certain hurler has won two all stars despite his championship record reading played five lost five quite remarkable i think i know the all stars are not exclusive to the championship but i still find this remarkable.
