NU KILLA BEATS - drum & bass @ the Underground, Baker Place, Limerick, Friday July 27th

"Friday the 27th of July sees two international guests at a summer special edition of Nu Killa Beats, Limerick's monthly Drum & Bass night in the Underground, Baker Place.

ASC (Covert Operations / Offshore / Inperspective / Good Looking, San Diego)

ASC (James Clements) is originally from the UK but made a move across the Atlantic to the sunnier climes of San Diego, California a few years ago. The easy going nature of that side of the US hasn't influenced him too much though, as his prolific release rate indicates. There are now over fifty releases in the 'ASC' discography. Pinning a name to ASC's penchant for marrying atmospherics to edgey electronics over broken beats is difficult – 'techmospherics' is the latest in dance journalisms long list of shameful genre names. We asked James about the music that has excited him most over the years and he cited “808 State, The Prodigy, Blame, Future Sound Of London, Ulrich Schnauss, Slowdive & Polar” as major influences. James also finds time to record under the 'Intex Systems' alias and his split personalities are responsible for a deluge of high quality Drum & Bass, Dubstep and Electronica on labels such as Covert Operations, Offshore, Inperspective and LTJ Bukem's Good Looking aswell as newer labels such as Hotflush and Vaccine.

    Egres (Surco / Offshore, Barcelona)

The second special guest is Egres. Having moved from Barcelona to New York at a young age, Egres cut his teeth in the nacent American Drum & Bass scene in the mid-nineties. He garnered attention playing radio shows and making appearances at parties such as the renowned Direct Drive and Testpress. He would go on to become a representative for the pioneering Offshore Recordings label and now, back in his home town of Barcelona he is pushing a diverse style of Drum & Bass @ the Surco nights he runs with Tamen.

Code (Nu Killa Kru / Subtle Audio Recordings / Spin FM, Limerick)

Representing Limerick on the night is Code. Already busy with the Nu Killa Beats night and his Subtle Audio Recordings record label, we hear he’ll be featuring on the new Limerick based radio station, Spin FM. He’ll be bringing a laid back, melodic sound as people filter in after 11.

So, it looks like this will be a night not to be missed ! Doors are @ 11pm till late. Admission 5 Euro before 12 and 7 after that."
