Cancelling Sky and signing up again

I'm looking for some advice on problems I've been having with my sky.

I can only receive some of the channels on my sky box. It's strange, the ones I'm missing is E4 but I have E4+1. I have Paramount Comedy+1 but not Paramount Comedy ... and the list goes on. I can't get any History Chanel but all the Discovery are fine.

I reckon it's got to do with my signal strength as it's pretty poor. I borrowed a satellite finder from a friend and I'm definitely getting good strength at the LNB.

At this stage I'm giving up myself and going to get a pro to have a look. What is the best way to do this?

My plan is this: the current Sky account is in my girlfriends name. I am going to get her cancel her account with Sky. I am then going to become a new user with Sky myself and avail of a new dish/cable/box/install for 45 euro from Sky and one free month and 10 euro credit if I order online. Will this work? Is this better than paying the 100 euro call out fee? And I may have to pay more than 100 euro if there is something wrong with the cable/LNB/box.

ring them up and tell them you want to cancel, when they ask why, tell them your dis-satisfied with their service and that you are expected to pay 100 euro to get it fixed, which is not acceptable, they should offer to pay all fee's and also pay for any parts the engineer will need. happened to my mate yesterday.

It always amazes me the amount of people who try and threaten Sky about canceling their account when something goes wrong. The equipment belongs to the end user after 12 months and as such people shouldnt sign up if they dont read the terms and conditions of service. I remember when Sky broadcast on Astra 19.2 degrees and people had to purchase their own sat equipment at prices between £300-£400 and then the monthly sub. If you cancel your sub you get to keep the equipment.

A few questions I would like to ask is,
    1. how old is your box.
    2. Manufacturer of the box. Is it a grundig?

If it is a Grundig box then my advice would be to upgrade to Sky+ instead of canceling your sub and starting again..as you would have to wait for delivery of new card and you will be starting a new contract.

You need to be careful here because if you cancel the sky contract at your present address and try to re-sign as a new subscriber your name address and tel no. will identify you as a re-connect and same offers as a new customer will not apply to you. this also applies after your 12 month minimum contract expires..

I think the point is that telling them you are going to cancell they ,most of the time ,will fix any problems free of charge. If they don't and cancel the account all you have to do is ring them back and tell them you have changed your mind and want to pay them to fix it.

I don't see the problem avoiding the €100 fee if you can

Use your wifes name or use your middle name to start up a new sub, also use a different form of your address and maybe use a different credit card and they will never know.

    Thanks for all the advice.
    It's a pace box - I reckon there's nothing wrong with it.

I'm going to get my girlfriend to cancel her sub and I'm going to subscribe myself.

I rang Sky to say my GF had moved out of the house and wanted to cancel her sub. I asked would the free connection and free kit apply to me if I wanted to create a sub in my own name and they told me it was OK. I'm going to go with this option.

The free installation offer is now expired, currently the installation is €45 but you get your first months sub for free.
