I bought a AA Navigator 2006 last year when the full Irish mapping came out and am currently considering updating the mapping as it is increasingly looking a little out of date. The AA Navigator at the time was a an "all in one" solution. Essentially a PDA with a built in GPS receiver the AA software on an SD card. (The unit is a pretty modest PDA made by a company called Typhoon)

I assume that I can install any comaptible software onto the PDA so am not necessarily restricted to the AA Nav 2007 software.

I'm looking for advice on whether that assumption is correct, and if so, what the best options for software only, on an SD card format would be, or would it even be worth my while updating at this point, or should I be waiting for something coming out in the near or distant future? How much would the maps have been updated in 1 year?

Edited to add: This might be a good idea for a sticky within this forum, it seems that there are a large number of questions regarding the what different products come with what different software versions with what different maps with what different qualities. Would it be an idea to start a sticky that gives the relative qualities/features of different software versions and what mapping they include?
