Darkroom Workshop for Beginners

I will be holding a one day workshop in Darkroom Printing for beginners on Saturday 25th August. This workshop is suited to beginners who wish to learn the basics of film development and darkroom printing. It may also suit those who have done darkroom work in the past but feel they may need a refresher course.

The workshop will consist of the following:

An overview of darkroom equipment and materials and advice on purchase of same.
A demonstration on film developing, followed by participant practice.
How to make correct Proof Sheets (Contact Sheets) from your rolls of film.
Making test prints and assessing them.
    Dodging and Burning techniques.
    Making the Final Print.

Each participant will need to bring at least one exposed and developed roll of traditional 35mm black & white film which can be of any subject. For this you can use any film camera from an expensive SLR to a basic compact camera.

Please note that this workshop does not involve the taking of photographs or any camera techniques. Level of experience with cameras (film or digital) is irrelevant. So all you need to bring are some negatives and you can take a full part in the workshop.

All paper and chemicals will be supplied and full workshop notes will also be provided. The cost for the day is €50 and the venue will be in Dundrum, Dublin 14, where free parking will be available. At present, I have five places free.

For further information, please post here or send me a pm.

balls.. if that wasn't the first day of Peoples Photography I'd probably have done it. Is it a once off event or is it going to be a regular thing?

I will possibly do another in September but can't confirm until this one is sorted.

I did a portfolio prep course in IADT which was basically a crash course in darkroom printing so I don't think I'd benefit.. Although, I am tempted.

I know Hetty and I think her courses are all full. I really think she should do advanced courses instead as at the introduction level the tutoring is more about the process than the technique. Going from intermediate to advanced printing is where people like Hetty would be a godsend.

She has new courses coming up in the September time frame ...

I have a few friends who have done intro and intermediate courses with her and all swear by her ... she'll customise based on the level of the student ...
