This was a big disappointment. Anyone else tried this? I got it in Redmonds, Ranelagh, and its more expensive than the other Sam Adams.

I've had their regular lager, Boston Ale, Winter version, and BlackLager - and loved them all. But this was just quite unpleasant. The high achohol content, 8.8%, probably has a lot to do with the unpleasant taste. But that needn't be the case, Belgian beers like Duvel and Chimay have similarly high alchohol and taste delicious. Its hard to remember the exact taste now but I recall it tasting like a watery weiss-beer with a shot of Vodka thrown in.

Thats a pity. I tried it a good while back but from what i can remember it did have some up front alcohol to it. I wouldn't have thought it tasted like a watery weiss though, maybe you got a bad bottle? Doppel bocks by nature should be quite dark, rich and full bodied in flavour, its a pity this one didnt do the style justice for you!
