Is there a way to book late notice flights that people have cancelled with their airline. I remember being on a plane to New York once that was half full thinking there should be some way of booking flights on this plane for cheaper.

This practice is no longer offered by scheduled airlines any more the only type of company that offer this kind of service is a charter airline like flyglobespan or airtransat. Aer lingus and US Airways dont sell off thier seats on th cheap anymore.
