A debate is raging here at work, help settle this before people get hurt.

You have magic Poker spectacles, but there's a catch. You can either see your opponents hole cards, OR the entire board in advance (flop turn and river).

Which do you want, and why? Does your decision change at tight/loose tables, with passive/aggressive players?

    This seems quite easy.

From watching NUMB3RS you see, we want to reduce the number of variables, you see?

Therefore, if we know the opponents hole cards, there are less cards we don't know, and there importance is easier to measure when they do come.

If we know the board in advance, we still have no idea what our opponents have, you see?

Serious question? Hole cards every single time, it's so far away from being close I'm not going to bother with reasons

Either, hole cards is better. Would be nice to know you would make a house with 74o before the flop though. :)

Would be far nicer to know opponent has AK and you can take him off the hand so much. Imagine the fun you could have overbetting all in every second hand when no-one can call?!

Oh yeah, hole cards are better all right. You get to know everything about every hand, win win!
Would make for a borign game after a while, but with all the money I would be winning I'm sure I would get over it.
You could even go all in behind saying, I put you on xx, which is their actual hand.

Has to be hole cards, you will always know when you are ahead/behind and when behind you will know your outs/odds.

If you choose the other way (Flop, turn, river) and you hold AK and the board with read AKK78, how do you know you are ahead? you could go broke against AA.

Don't think the table dynamics should matter, however someone said about taking a player off a hand, why would you need to do this. you will know everytime you are ahead, even with marginal holdings, so why should you take a risk that a player will fold.

Actually even better would be playing very passive preflop and tilting the hell out of everyone by minraising all over the place, value betting with 4th pair and calling every bluff with J high. Or minraising and showing if they have K high.
I think I would prefer calling people down every time I'm ahead because of the tilt effect it would have. Playing someone heads-up with this ability would cause them to quit poker

Can I get option three instead: see though clothes!

Its a bit like rock, paper, scissors really:
    hole cards > board cards
    through clothes > hole cards
    board cards > through clothes

Given the above, I choose "through clothes" and go looking for the waitress. :D

P.S. Can I have them at -1, otherwise they wouldn't do anything for me? :)

Whoever said flop turn river cards should be sacked.

I played a home game a few weeks ago where I had difficulty seeing my own hole cards.

But yeah seriously how was this an even debate.
I would feel more confident winning a debate claiming that rape is right or that the holocaust never happened or that heroin is not addictive than taking the know the board cards side of this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,156 ✭✭✭cuterob

    hole cards

though it could be cool to see the flop and know that you rags are gonna make the nuts..just go all in everytime when you're gonna make a class and probaly unbeatable hand and when asked why you went in with rags just say they're your lucky cards or something...but hole cards are better though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,894 ✭✭✭✭phantom_lord

I'd go for the board cards. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭BobSloane

Well i'd take the board cards in limit holdem. So maybe heroin isn't addictive..?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,360 ✭✭✭NeVeR

I'll take 2 pairs, 1 set to Hole cards and 1 set to board cards.... lol

Ya hole cards would be for me..
