There is some more info here as well as the manual for the device:
    http://www.myguide-navigator.de/

it says it has support for all these countries:
Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Norway,
Portugal, Republic of Ireland, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Vatican

BUT it dosen't mention what mapping company is used cos a lot of them are pants for Ireland!
would need to find out what maps are being used before we know if its any use

You would need to find out what mapping company is used so you would be able to check with them if they have maps for USA

If this (tiny) coverage map of Ireland is accurate then I'd steer clear of this GPS unit:

If thats the right mapping company then this is not worth a penny...get the one in Aldi for €199 much better device with miles better mapping

Looking into getting a cheap (but not rubbish) Sat Nav system.

Would people in the know recommend this one or is there another,
similar priced but better system available elsewhere?

    Any help at all appreciated.

Edit: Actually just seen a link to a GPS forum (didnt realise there was one)
so there will prob be an answer there
