Reading books on the DS?

    Hello

I got myself a ds lite and r4 last week and got games up and running - amazing piece of kit so thanks for everyone on this forum for their help.

Other than gaming I'd love to be able to read books on it as I'm going travelling for 3 months and instead of lugging around 3/4 books I'd like to load them onto the ds and read them - does anyone know any software I can download to do this and how it works? I've been able to download books in pdf format and convert them to text so now i just need to know how to read them on the ds.

Any advice would be greatly appreicated!

    Thanks,
    Simon

Well, I know that there are comic book viewers for the DS but I'm not sure if they read .pdf file types. I'm thinking that maybe they only read .jpg, .png etc.

Well, You can use Moonshell to view .txt files and images aswell so I'm sure that you can use that.

Moonshell can be used to play music and videos so it's the best media player by far for the DS.

    Hope that helps.

I would love a PDF viewer for the DS, but there isn't one at the moment.
Imagine a reader that could intelligently split a page across both screens.... I wish.

I had a load of books I want to transfer, but like the other posters, I could only find comic book readers. I did download an app that converted pdf pages into jpgs, that you could then rar up and change the extension to cbr to work with comic book readers. It was kinda iffy though, making page breaks at seemingly random places on each page, but if you were desperate, you could probably live with it.

I'll look up the names of the 2 pieces of software (the cbr reader and the pdf convertor) if you're interested.

Hey thanks for all the replies.

I'm quite sorted - only interested in novels.

ps is is ok to discuss downloading these things? I read the charted and it's not really clear - I'm under the impression it's ok to discuss so long as I don't provide links? Mods sorry if anything I've posted is not allowed can you delete whatever's not appropriate, thanks?

Can I just ask what size these converted novels are? I mean how many MB or GB. It's just that if you only have a small Sd card then it's kinda pointless.

And like Theboinkmaster said above, if this is inappropriate, feel free to delete.

Just to follow this up I suppose..

I converted Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince from pdf to txt and thee whole document only amounted to 1.039 mb.

    So, it's teeny really.

Hey thanks for all the replies.

I'm quite sorted - only interested in novels.

Using torrents i was able to d/l all the harry potter films in pdf, then just saved em as txt files and copied them onto the R4. I also d/l about 300 fiction novels (tom clancy, dan brown, john gisham, stephen king etc) in .lit format and got a great little program called abclit which converted them to txt files.

Reading txt files on the R4 seems quite good - uses both screens and just press the A button to flick pages, but will see how it works for long periods of time.

The ds and r4 really were the best €200 ive ever spent - going travelling for 3 months and now have a library of 20 snes games, 50 ds games (just d/l ign's top 50) and 300 books all on one card to keep me busy for those 12 hour bus journeys (talking cairns to arlie beach etc), happy days

ps is is ok to discuss downloading these things? I read the charted and it's not really clear - I'm under the impression it's ok to discuss so long as I don't provide links? Mods sorry if anything I've posted is not allowed can you delete whatever's not appropriate, thanks?

Is that a 2GB Mirco SD?

Seems like an awful lot of stuff

    Yeah i got a 2gb card with my R4.

Once the .lit/.pdf files are converted to .txt they are very very small

It's not okay to be talking about downloading copyrighted material including book or games. Your post has been editted. Don't do it again and it is mentioned in the charter.

I'm interested in that pdf converter if you still have that name.
