American Football in Maynooth!

Hey guys, hope this is ok with the mods here, if not then feel free to move/delete/banish me etc.. but seeing as how NUI Maynooth has oh so many students, not to mention lots of American transfer students every year I was hoping this would be ok here to gauge some interest.

There will be a new American Football team set up in Maynooth for the coming 2008 season in the Irish American Football League, we will be starting to hold practices over the next few weeks and are looking for anybody who is interested in playing or taking part in our first season. Obviously players are our first port of call at the moment but if there are any societies in the college such as photography etc. that would like to get involved and expand their portfolios or equivalent then please feel free to contact us.

Our website is www.irishmustangs.com (coming soon) but our forum is up at www.irishmustangs.com/forum, we also have our bebo page which is http://iaflmustangs.bebo.com which also contains contact information such as phone numbers for any interested parties.

We are in discussions with NUIM themself at the moment to see if they are willing to get involved which is another reason why im posting this here.

Anyway if anyone is interested please contact me and if this is ok with the mods then I can provide more information here regarding the team etc.

oh and by the way this is fully kitted, full contact football just like you see on tv or in madden!

Just a quick update in case anybody is interested:

We will be starting training this Sunday at 12pm in Maynooth at the pitch at Harbour Field (beside the playground) and it shoud run for between 2-3 hours.

If anybody would like to come along and train with us you are more than welcome, all you need is yourself and suitable training gear including football boots.

A mate of mine got onto me last week about this, and out of curiousity, what's your stance on people who don't have a bulls notion about American Football? Are they to be doomed to a Sandler-esque Waterboy position? I've some rugby experience though.

Everybody is welcome to come up and play for us, any age any size any fitness level! There is always a place on the team for people, just got to find the position you want to play and then train for it.

Most new guys when they come up won't know where they want to play or where they should play but it all falls into place after a couple of weeks, we will teach you everything you need to know about the game if you do come up.

We will be getting together every Sunday at 12.00pm beside the playground in Maynooth... or just down past the Roost might be better directions :D

Just to update any interested parties, training now takes place at 1.00pm every Sunday.

Just that little bit longer to recover from Saturday's hangover... not that we are encouraging excessive drinking... of course. ahem.
