I've been taking pictures for about 3 years now and I’m pretty happy with most of my stuff,
I do all my stuff on film and don’t really bother as of yet with Photoshop and the likes,
I do real black and white in the darkroom and that,
to the point is what would one do to either get work exhibited, sold or in any way appreciated,
I live in Galway and will probably get involved with the NUIG photography society when college starts again,
I'm aware of the Galway camera clubs existence but not to sure what they do,
the guy who showed me how to sue the darkroom remarked that they weren’t very useful,
    but I’m an optimist,
so any information on them and anything else relevant would be wonderful,
    thanks

Well, it's a difficult question really... Do you want to become a pro? Or set up a website selling prints?

As much information you provided, it still dosn't give much of a clue of what you want to do!

I just want to get them out there, as they say,
    Possible make some money,
Get them put up galleries if at all possible,
And in the mean time any good websites for displaying pictures,
Setting up a website to sell prints sounds good,
I don’t see this becoming a main thing,
But I figure I have enough time to do the work necessary,

i've been planning on doing a website for awhile , so as a stop gap i have started to use smugmug.
I'm only using it a couple of weeks and have sold nothing, and even if i do i'll sell them at cost , as i'm on a standard a/c . If it goes well and i sell a few , i'll upgrade to pro a/c (100 euros !) , and try and make some money .
Heres my smugmug a/c , if you want to see what it can do and what it looks like

You can set up your website & use Photobox to print the photos & deliver them, while keeping you a profit. It's something I'm quite interested in because I'm quite lazy and lose interest in different bits and pieces fast...

Would you be interested in advertising your services as a photographer, as well as selling prints? Buying prints is all well and good, and means you can work at your own rate, but at the end of the day, the real fun is working for people.

    What do you normally shoot?

if setting up a photography gallery website for yourself http://www.clikpic.com/ is pretty good and fairly easy to use.

you can only add 60 photos with the basic account £35 / year and £12 / 2 years for your own domain name and its £50 for 120 photos.

it integrates with paypal as well for easy selling

    heres my site

Hi as far as I know for Gallerys you can either get together with a couple of compatible artists and rent it out yourself for a period of time and try to get people in there to buy them or if you are really good some gallery comes along and offers to display you stuff. I think you need to get out there and talk to gallery owners and ask them how it is done. meet people and try to find like minded individuals.

before that though get a web site for your portfolio and put some good samples up there. that way you can point them towards something they might look at.

I am wondering if getting some business cards printed out with the url of your website on it so you can hand them out to people who seem interested. so that they can get a look at your work.

remember to use low res samples of your work and put a watermark on the photograph before you put them up.

www.carbonmade.com seem to do easy to setup portfolio sites

    also look at www.deviantart.com.

    Hi,
I've been in the Galway Camera Club for the last 2 years, so I can give you some info. if you need it. The website is http://www.galwaycameraclub.com/. This year, they will meet on a Wednesday night in Cluain Mhuire (GMIT) located in Wellpark just up from the Huntsman roundabout (website still says thursday night). Flickr group is http://www.flickr.com/groups/galwaycameraclub/.

A good few of the members have websites of their own stuff so they could probably give you some advice or tips (mine's http://www.monasette.com/blog/). Best thing to do is come along to a meeting - perhaps mention it in advance on the Flickr page so we can keep an eye out for you, and say hello. Like any club, it has it's cliques but once you get to people, its grand.

The club is a good opportunity to show your pictures - there's plenty of competitions, and slots for presenting your stuff. I'm not sure if they do traditional darkroom stuff anymore - I'd gone digital before I joined.

Give me a shout here or at john AT monasette DOT com if you need more info.

I am also a member of the Galway Camera Club and have for my sins become a member of the clubs committee for the new year starting later this year.

John has already given you the club webby details but you are more than welcome to get in touch if there is anything more specific you want to know.

    Cheers

    Mike
