Sky / Sky+ Questions

    Hi,
I currently have NTL Digital and I am thinking of moving to Sky. I'd like Sky+ in one room and normal Sky in 2 other rooms.
From what I can gather on the Sky website that would mean:
    Sky+ Box €149
Sky Box €free for new customers
    Additional Sky Box €69
    Subscription - €31.50 (for 6 mixes)
Multiroom - €15 (is that per room?)
Installation - free if I get multiroom (€45 if not)

    So initial outlay €218
    Monthly Cost €61.50

    Am I forgetting anything?
What does the actual installtion involve? I presume I'll need a dish, do i have to pay for that?
    Thanks for any advice.

A phone line at each box. Installer may charge extra for having to install them. They are required for multiroom.

Thanks, I'd thought of that (my dad is in Eircom so he can do it for free!)

If I sourced the equipment myself would I just have to pay the subscription fee - do Sky let you do that? Do you save any money that way?

I've just had a thought - if I have Sky+ in the living room for main use. Then put a sky box in the bedroom. Could I use one of those magic eye/digisend things to view sky in the kitchen? Or some other combination of the above, therefore only paying for one multiroom seeing as the kitchen & bedroom wouldn't really be used at the same time.

    Thanks again.

Oh, one more thing. How do they decide where to put the dish? I presume each box (the sky+ and standard) will have to be wired to the dish - will they do the wiring? Do they make a mess or do a neat job?

If you're happy to just watch whatever is on the sitting room Sky box, then don't even bother with multiroom. You can take the RF feed and distribute it to the rest of the rooms.

I just got Sky+ a couple of weeks ago. What I did was I got the installer to bring in the 2 other feeds from the LNB, to the attic. (I paid him extra to do that)
I can use these for other FTA in two other rooms.
I've also got the RF output from the Sky+ box going back up the the attic, so that it can be watched in any of the rooms.

Personally, I think it's a better alternative to paying €180 a year for multiroom.

I could do that but the kids take over the living room tv with Cbeebies etc so the reason for considering multiroom is so that we grown-ups can watch something other than cartoons! Probably worth the extra €180 in my case as we are currently paying for digital tv that we never get to watch!

I presume that programs recorded on a Sky+ box can only be watched on that box? Is the Magic Eye easy to move from TV to TV so that we could have it on the kitchen TV running off the ordinary sky box in the bedroom but move it to the living room(where the sky+ box would be) if we want to watch recorded programs in the bedroom (does that make sense??)

My installer told me 2 be cute and get multiroom(even though i only wanted FTA is the other room) and sky plus (which i wanted ) . So after 2 months i quit multiroom and still had FTA in the other room!! Works out cheaper ! also he didnt mind not putting in the phone line cause i tolf him i was quitting after 2 months . Less hastle with wires

I rang Sky about Multiroom and the lady, sounded from Cork, told me that if I got a Sky+ box multiroom would be free, anyone else come across this. I asked for how many rooms and she said for one extra room.

Thats surely in terms of install - you still have to pay €15 per month to have multiroom reception.

AFAIK - the multiroom box and installation will be free. You'll still be paying €15 a month

    Cbeebies is FTA.

I asked her to clarify it, I said are you sure, no monthly fee and she said, no, it was free with a Sky+ box included in the one off payment of €149. I was asking about multiroom in several rooms and she said well you'll have it in the main room and the next room is free and then it is €15 per room after that.

Some of the ladies in Cork seem to be trainees.....

I've just got (5 days ago) what you're looking for, Sky+ in one room and two other rooms on multiroom. Multiroom gets you free Sky+ installation, I'm still paying €30 (2 x €15) a month for multiroom on top of the cost of the mixes.

Be aware that you'll need two coax cables run for the Sky+ box (as opposed to just the one for NTL).
